    Peter Roebuck dies

Reading through this resurrected thread it seems there was some support for Roebuck's position in that dispute. Crowe and then Steve Waugh (who replaced Crowe when he got injured in 1988) were hugely successful.

*Official* 2024 South Africa tour of New Zealand: 2 tests

Yeah, McMillan had Return of the Mack for domestic Cricket Max too. Cairns used to come out to Back in Black by ACDC and Spearman used Macho Man by Village People. Gary Stead must have been in the ODI squad but never played any ODI games so never got to walk out to the Boxer.

That was a great ODI series. Kluesener ultimately brought it home for SA from memory as it went down to the wire. Dion Nash did a pretty good job filling in as captain for Fleming. Went to one of the games at Eden Park and Chris Harris came out to Eye of the Tiger.

So Wagner might get a farewell test after all.

Shipley back for Canterbury A today.

Which of these English 90s XIs is better? (22 unique players)

Ok, Hick was my favorite English player so I went B. But I actually like their chances generally with that bowling attack. Fletcher also said if he had been coach he would have always picked both Hick and Ramprakash. With consistent selection those two could flourish. Also, Jack Russell an ATG...

*Official* 2024 South Africa tour of New Zealand: 2 tests

They mentioned the workload with 4 tests in a short space of time as the reason for not enforcing the follow-on so presumably that is part of the thinking. And the fact it's a depleted SA side makes it a perfect opportunity to introduce O'Rourke who they clearly see as the future of the attack...

Cool to see 18 yr old Schrueder get a wicket on debut for ND.

Fantastic knocks against West Indian fast bowlers of the 80's

Jeff Crowe's 112 at Sabina Park in 1985 was apparently a very good attacking innings. He batted at 3 and came in at 1–13. Martin Crowe had a golden home series against the Windies in 86/87, including scores of 104, 119 and 83 across the three tests. In his book he said when he was bowled on 83...

Yeah, Phillips at 5 seems like an easy switch.

Watching a replay, enjoying Stevenson and McMillan discussing Williamson's record and not to take it for granted. Agree, sometimes have to pinch myself that this guy comes from Otumoetai where I played a lot of cricket as a kid.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Saw that innings of Mather's at the old Blake Park. He was class. With a bit more discipline perhaps could have been in the Black Caps.

Think he speaks for many of us in their mid-40's.

*Official* 2024 South Africa tour of New Zealand: 2 tests

Sounds dubious. Southee had done a pretty good job captaining in T20. Latham lead in 2 of the tests the Black Caps lost in England in 2022. They may have wanted a fresh approach.

So another 3 balls would have got a result I guess. Not sure who would have been ahead on D/L.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Yeah, we've had rain in Thorndon and it's pretty gloomy out there. Was surprised to see they were playing. Van Beek presumably was fired up after that Super Smash final over last week. Surprised Robinson is still missing - I assumed he had a minor injury but he's been out for a few weeks now.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Surprised Jamal Todd can't make this side. Hopefully he's not off in some T20 league.
