    I'd be wary of reading too much into how useful a coach is based on snippets of comments in the media. He's probably just trying to take heat off the team. Behind the scenes he's unlikely to be telling the likes of Williamson, Southee and Mitchell they can't win.

    MacDonald was a good age-group player - same vintage as Oram and the Marshalls. I think he played Hawke Cup for Marlborough after he retired from rugby too. Oram is still one of my favourite players to watch.

    I remember when Elliot first played in the Hadlee/Chappell series around 2009 O'Keefe told the other ABC commentators he'd watched him in England and concluded "the best leg glancer in World Cricket, G Elliot, Wellington."
