Tomorrow night Saffer time then?

Always remember some random pitches on our tours to New Zealand but these days everything is pristine.

The crater pitch. Was that Seddon Park or Napier?

The glued pitch at Eden park. Our boys filled their boots. Gazza, Hersch & Cullinan.

Seddon for the crater, I loved that! Probably a step too far, but it definitely created a bit of intrigue, got us demoting our LH bats down the order etc.

One of my favourite memories was that 2004 series, and especially Eden Park when Chris Martin took 11-for, Styris, Oram and Cairns scored tons (edit, Oram got 90). A hard fought proper 3-Test series with two sides stacked full of world class talent, and the ODI series was fun, too.

I'm really intrigued about the make-up of our side for this Test. Yes, there's absolutely still a Test to win and 2-0 to secure, nothing should be taken for granted, and SA would've competed a lot harder at the Mount if they'd caught decently. So that's the absolutely priority.

But it's a real head scratcher as to what is our best XI going forward to Australia, and specifically the Basin and Hagley. Those are two pretty cast-iron seamer decks, where you play four seamers if you can - and we probably can, because we can play two spin options in our top 7, whether that's Santner/Phillips and Rachin. That's why O'Rourke is playing this week.

So O'Rourke, if he bowls OK this week, might be in with a shot. Mitchell comes back in against Australia, potentially either for Santner or at a push for Phillips. It's a really difficult one. Our batting was strong last week, but you feel like we need all the firepower we can manage to bowl Australia out. But if we play O'Rourke, Jamieson bats 8 and 8-11 looks brittle. Then if you drop Santner, and it turns a bit, Phillips/Rachin aren't bonafide Test options.

I guess part of the allure of O'Rourke, too, in the selectors eyes is they see how Jamal and Joseph rocked Australia with pace. Dunno if our pitches will have quite the same zing, or if O'Rourke is that similar sort of bustly bowler. O'Rourke does look like he bowls well to LHers, though, which I think was part of his success v Australia A and Australia have Khawaja, Head and Carey in the top 7.

I'm probably just being sentimental when it comes to Wagner and find it a bit of a shame that he's just fading away now into retirement. Especially as seeing him have his final Test against his birth country would have been a nice end to his career.
Oh I absolutely love him as well. Part of me doesn’t want him to play again and further destroy his average haha. It was in the 26’s for so long!

That article also says " Kyle Jamieson rested". I've not heard anything else about that anywhere?

First tour I remember watching us in New Zealand. Love the fact you started with ODI's, went to Tests and then finished off the ODI's.

That was a great ODI series. Kluesener ultimately brought it home for SA from memory as it went down to the wire. Dion Nash did a pretty good job filling in as captain for Fleming. Went to one of the games at Eden Park and Chris Harris came out to Eye of the Tiger.

Chris Harris came out to Eye of the Tiger. Ha!

It was such a great time to be a cricket fan.

Used to love watching Nash bowl. Astle was super aggressive. It was peak Zulu. WC '99 was coming.

We used to play each other quite often often because of the triangular in Australia. Some all-time great contests.

I reckon he used that every time! Here's a page from one of the programmes back in the '90s that I've seen pop up online a few times:

But a few of them went through some different songs during their careers. I'm sure McMillan had Return of the Mack, while Fleming had the Dandy Warhols' Bohemian Like You at one stage.

Imagine if they did this today (which I think they really should, at least for white ball). GP coming out to the John Cena theme is a good start, but they all need songs.

How did Matt Horne get away with that! 😂
