    Mike Procter dead at 77

Sad news. I remember Glenn Turner who played county cricket through the 70's and early 80's rated Proctor's batting ahead of Botham's and he was obviously a top bowler too. Unique style bowling off the wrong foot. Would have been a huge star today. Was a popular figure as coach when South Africa...

*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

O'Rourke is going to be an automatic pick for the next 10 years. If he plays it would potentially be in place of Wagner I guess. Apparently the NZCPA issued this guidance following his case (from a Spinoff article about it).

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Looks like ND have handed him a List A debut for today's game against Canterbury @Howsie

In the UAE T20 league and appears to be doing pretty well but presumably unavailable as a result. He did well in that A tour series win over Aus A so would probably otherwise have been odds on for a call-up although like Tickner hasn't featured in any squads this season. Part of me would like...

Another bad one was losing Dion Nash ahead of the 2000 series. O'Rourke is pretty much straight away our most dangerous bowler now.

*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

I think he did continue to improve although he immediately made an impact against India in the home tests that summer. I think he only got that chance after Wagner was out on paternity leave. A lot of his improvement came from the shift from Canterbury to Akl and working under Heinrich Malan who...

****, that is heartbreaking. Would have been his first test series against Australia. I always wondered how he would have gone against them on that 2019/20 tour.

That was gutting. Lord Colin and Jeetan Patel bowled pretty well in that one from memory.

He could have been saying his side would have wiped the floor with this lot for all I could tell  Cool to be able to watch home games at the Backbencher (and later Trax) again too.

Yeah, also saw him being interviewed during the lunch break while at Backbencher. Sound was off but thought it was pretty cool of NZC to have someone from that famous 53/54 tour along for the test. Incidentally, I see we got a 5 test series back then!

Yeah, he actually performed well in the home tests but got overtaken by O'Rourke who was very impressive in the NZ A series against Australia A. I guess if Wagner bows out he could come back into the frame.

Like a taller version of a 90's Baldwin brother?

Surprised that win predictor puts NZ at 50% here vs 47% for SA win. I would put SA slightly ahead now.

This has triggered a childhood memory - one of the first cricket books I read in the late 80's Cricket in Australia (?) that was about the 84/85 season the Windies toured and there was a World Cricket Championship (sounded like an alternative WC). It had a pic of a bespectacled Howarth. I think...

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Good wicket for 18yr old Schreuder, bowling Dale Phillips. Otago seem to be having quite a good Ford Trophy campaign. Was hoping Taylor Bettelheim (@Howsie rates him I believe) might get a game for CD after doing well in the early season A side games. Not sure if he's injured as he didn't...

Watching a replay and Kyle Mills talking about how impressed he was with O'Rourke on the first day. Apparently top speed of 144.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Greenwood off to a decent start. They've persisted with him for a while so hopefully he can convert it.

Watching some of the first session Brand and van Tonder seem to have a similar backlift to Foxcroft. Wonder if it's similar coaching or emulating Graeme Smith.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Looking up Josh Brown who batted 5 for NDA against Wellington A and scored a relatively fast hundred. Of course all the results come up for the Brisbane Heat opener who makes his own bats. 🤦‍♂️ It looks like he is 23, born SA and played for ND in that game a couple of years ago when most of the...
