Good confidence builder for Jones and the captain Jackson. The keeper batted at 9 which seems a bit unusual unless they were experimenting with the line-up.

Just watching the NZ innings I see Glenn Phillips is coming out to the same music John Cena did.

It didn't help that we finally got a Boxing Day test and performed terribly. We also seem to have lost the Hadlee Chappell series - I guess there isn't room in the calendar now even though they briefly brought it back in 2021.

That might have been the one where Preston and Nash competed. Two guys renowned for their fitness. I think it was about 96/97 and Nash was out of top cricket recovering from a back injury. Preston incidentally was also a very good cricketer apparently.

This description of it as a nerd pentathalon is on the money. I think one of my High School maths teachers was on it. The main thing I remember was the flying fox at the army base where they did an obstacle course. There was another series in the 90's that had a similar course that I vaguely...

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Spinning away from the right hander so generally harder to slog? Not sure. Just watching the replay and Stephenson has won me over explaining to a younger commentator what the Krypton Factor was. Looked OK in his brief stay. Powerfully stuck six over cover off Small. Missed a full toss then...

I didn't realise Jock McKenzie's brother was Angus McKenzie who plays for Canterbury. https://i.stuff.co.nz/sport/cricket/301039526/blues-rugby-representative-shines-for-auckland-aces-on-super-smash-debut

Wellington fared poorly under him in the white ball comps last year. Santner would make a big difference to the side but the top order haven't fired. Katene Clarke had a great Super Smash last season but hasn't really gotten going. Not sure T20 is Cooper's format and he has been out of form too.

Dude missed the last game with Covid? Probably not 100%.

Good second over from Sears. Was about to say why did they take him off and then Milne gets a massive wicket.

Yeah, I only knew of his rapid fire centuries whenever he seems to play for Auckland A but his bowling looked outstanding. Best dual sporting prospect since Jeff Wilson (haven't seen him play rugby tbf)?

Is Leo Carter injured? If not Canterbury must have massive wraps on BJ Jacobs who seems to have overtaken him along with the likes of McClure and Mariu who could presumably fill that number 7 role.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Unfair characterisation of a hard-working player having a bad season. Bowes was second highest run scorer in Super Smash last season and third the season before. Third highest in Ford Trophy...

Not a great start for BJ Watling taking over from Graeme Aldridge. He didn't have great success as coach of the Firebirds white ball sides either? https://i.stuff.co.nz/sport/cricket/300832779/bj-watling-to-replace-graeme-aldridge-as-northern-districts-coach-next-summer

I vaguely remember early career Cachopa and Joe Austin-Smellie were competing for the Wellington keeping spot then Luke Ronchi arrived and they both departed.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Retired in March 2020 after captaining Auckland to a win in the Ford Trophy and runner-ups in the Super Smash that season. Apparently was doing a carpentry apprenticeship. I remember when he headed off to play county cricket as a local player it seemed like a big loss as he was arguably the most...

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Not sure why Tim Pringle only bowled 2 overs. Disappointing return from Kristian Clarke who has done well in Plunket Shield earlier in the season and is a promising all-rounder. Mitch Hay impressed the Aussie commentators on that A-tour. Looks like a Black Cap in waiting. One question - all...

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

I think in retrospect Astle was always primarily a batsman (batted 5 for NZ under 20's as it then was) but could only fit into the all-star Canterbury Shell Cup side down the order as an economical medium pace bowler (like Styris at ND). I remember he seemed even economical than Larsen. In the...
