As was pointed in Haigh's article in The Oz today Kahwaja has faced more balls than any other Aus batsmen despite Head and Harris being ahead on average. He's always been boundary centric like almost all modern Aus batsmen but it shows just how mired he's been this series, striking at rates not normally seen since the twenties. He just can't work a bowler at all and it makes things more difficult to for the other batsmen too.

Yeah noticed that myself yesterday, sitting on his bat handle when the side needed him, more than ever, to step up. That's why the selectors need to take the tough decision and move on from the Khawaja era. You can't rebuild when you have a senior guy who's barely hanging on. Lead or **** off.

I think it was Ponting who was pointing out that during their partnership, Harris was watching Kuldeep's release every time when at the non-striker's whereas Khawaja wasn't giving it any attention at all. That is definitely the sort of thing he'd notice, but it does speak to a certain lack of "in the game" sense.

With regards to the light thing.

I think the subjective part of it is so that of one ground "feels darker" than another due to more trees or whatnot you can go off sooner on that ground than on a "lighter feel" ground. Human perceptions of light is extremely subject to many factors so using a light meter and saying "whenever we get to XYZ reading it's too dark" might fell really strange on some grounds but not on others.
Yeah it's nowhere near as simple as "oh this meter is measuring x y z lumens and therefore the light is good/not good", brains don't process information quite like that. There are definitely big variations across the world from ground to ground and from climate to climate as to what constitutes "good light", in some places you can play on basically through twilight whereas with others they basically go off the moment the sun starts to set.

If only Cowan didn't retire. Probably would've had a late career stint like Rogers.

Although tbf the selectors rewarded him top scoring by dropping him for NSW so..

Only a few hours left in this test series now. Is this the most significant triumph in the history of indian test cricket ? 1971 double triumphs should also rank very highly I would think.

There's literally nothing to lose here except a winning margin of 3-1 vs. 2-1. I'm astonished that anyone would think enforcing it here isn't the right decision.
Yeah, end of day 3 you bat Australia out the game.

Following on now gives a chance of 3-1, there's no way Australia can do anything that's realistic to win.

There was a very very slim chance that Aus could have done something had play not been cancelled today. But even then that would hinge on Aus making their highest score of the series and with the mental state they are in, that will be almost a miracle. Following on was the right decision especially now that play has been cancelled. If India batted again, they would have been dicked.

You guys realize that enforcing the follow on isn't the same as declaring your second innings for zero right? Australia were 322 runs behind which would have taken them 3 sessions just to get even and would have taken 4-5 sessions to get a lead of 100. Then they would need another session to bowl India out for less than 100...if that was even possible. Absolutely no chance at all for Australia to have won even if India didn't enforce the follow on.

Don't disagree with the conclusion but dunno if that's the indicator. Some guys watch the ball all the time even in the field (Ponting was one), others don't (Mark Waugh). Then again Ponting averaged 10 runs more than MWaugh so **** it.

Is determining visibility an exact science? How accurate are light meters w/regards to determining whether or not humans can see a ball clearly?

I actually got one of those umpire's light meters recently. Have yet to play around with it tho. Maybe I'll feedback on my experiences with it once I do.
Surely they can develop a technology for it, or is it impossible to do so? Discuss

Just saw an interview with Handscomb where he basically implied that chopping on was a bit unlucky

Unfortunately, that ignores the fact that he has a gap between bat & pad which you could drive a bus through so his body can’t be used as a second line of defence

Bowlers are taking advantage of a technical flaw and there’s no luck involved
