His non-Bangladesh/Zimbabwe home and away averages should be interesting (Sangakkara, that is).
He showed me all the class in the world with his 192 against Australia this year ... If it wasn't Bucknor.

I certain he'll take Lanka to the Brink of this Test

Yeah, there's no denying that he's a world-class batsman and that innings was truly magnificent, but his record is bolstered somewhat by his stats against those two, in particular.

As for this test, he may certainly prove (along with Mendis) the difference between defeat and loss for Sri Lanka, both in this game and in a wider context.

For the Most Part Every Great Player has taken their Liberties against BD and Zim, but these things at the end always find a way even out, Perhaps Sanga has taken extra liberties against Bangladesh, but IMO more power to him for doing it because not every batsmen do take advantage when they play Bangladesh, We don't hold those innings back when their dismissed for a poor score?

I've seen plenty of Bangladesh Tests (one to many for my own well being) and this is my take I think it's justified when you don't include Minnows in Comparing Bowlers but not justified when adjudging Batsmen

Disagree. Let's put the debate about Sanga aside and say he is a great batsman, but there is no reason to keep those records for batsmen but not for bowlers.

In any case, it doesn't even out. All runs scored are equal. But I'll give you two examples of batsmen, tell me what you think.

Batsman A averages 50 against the strongest side in Tests and 60 against the weakest.
Batsman B averages 40 against the strongest side in Tests and 70 against the weakest.

Someone like Ponting has also played very little against such sides whereas someone like Kallis has played many.

No, but as you admit, most batsmen do. That's all too obvious.

Personally, I exclude all innings against those two nations for every Test batsman and bowler, regardless of how well or not they performed. I don't see why you'd assess batsmen any differently from bowlers when it comes to 'minnow-bashing' or even when being bashed by minnows.

Whatever it takes!!!
bah! tendulkar back to his inconsistent ways....:@, if he doesn't get out of this slump soon, this last bit of his career will be perceived as hanging on to break lara's record...
lol.. It has just been one bad series mate.. preceded by two very good ones, one of which I would put as one of his best ever... Over-reacting, I think, u are... :)

Missed most of the game today but the match seems to be nicely poised with the advantage going to Sri Lanka. My sense is that the "par" course for match would be for India to set a target of around 180 with Sri Lanka getting there with five wickets to spare. However it would only require one special performance from India: a big hundred or a cheap five-fer for the result to go the other way.

SL are in trouble in this game. I really cant see us chasing more than 200 in the 4th innings.
No matter what bowling attack we can produce, as long as we have only 2 test standard batsmen we cant expect to win tests constantly.
Dilshan is barely an ODI standard batsmen, let alone a decent test batsmen. Samaraweera is useless in any pitch that the ball spins, moves or even bounces. And P.Jayawardena is just as bad. It is possible to carry a keeper/batsmen when the other 6 are decent, but this isnt going to work out for much longer.
Hope he manages to last about ~60 balls tomorrow, at least sanga can do some score some runs then.
Anyway great test thus far, and absolutely great test series as well.

The first session tomorrow could be key. The Sri Lankan tail have been walking wickets so far but if they stick around this time and let Sanga score he could really take the game away from India. He will probably shift gears tomorrow and if he can hit about 70 runs before lunch and extend the lead beyond 100, it will be a huge psychological blow. My hunch is that the tail is going to show a bit more fight tomorrow and India will need to get Sanga out quickly to restrict the lead.

Indeed. I believe a 25-50 lead will have the game evenly matched, but any more and it is firmly in Sri Lankan control.

i reckon we need 2 get SL all out before they get more than 315 max tbh....if they are restricted to 300 or so...the game will be evenly poised...anything more than 315 and i say that SL are ahead. Super test match we have in prospect if u ask me!!!

How can you remove Bangladesh or whatever from someone's average? Is that the filtered one?

Say for example, I wanted to see Sachin Tendulkar's average against every nation except for Australia and New Zealand, how would I do it?

Go to cricinfo stats and you would have the option to customise it.
