I feel the rut started when we installed Ganguly as the BCCI supremo and he brought is 20 year old feud with Ravi Shastri along. AFAIC, it cost the team all its harmony and unity. First bringing Kumble in needlessly as a coach when the partnership of Shaz-Virat was working very well. Then, ensuring all his favorite media outlets ran stories about Virat's captaincy when he had to sit out the 3 tests in BG 2020-21. I think that is what broke Kohli more than just technical weaknesses. Obviously him hanging on since then is his and the selectors' fault as much as anyone's but as an overall take, I think Ganguly has done more to destroy Indian cricket in the last 7 years than anyone from anywhere.

This stuff about Ganguly you keep going on about is a massive stretch. We suck because our batsmen suck. Coaching is barely going to change anything about that. Kohli sucked as a batsmen well before he was forced out as captain and the idea that some media stories caused him to start batting like a moron is weak af. The guy just sucks as a batsman now ffs what are these ridiculous excuses.

The whole captaincy thing was a fiasco but don't buy one bit it's caused some major harm to the team for years. No coach is going to magically make our batsmen stop averaging 25.

He is a really talented umpire. Without much formal training and all, he came up the ranks officiating bd domestics and mostly white ball international cricket in BD. His inclusion in elite panel was kind of a surprise and made some really good decisions this year. He is officiating on field in 5th test which is probably his biggest match in his career.
