I think top 20 pacers of all time is a tad unfair to Bumrah. Nearly all of the bowlers outside top 10 average over 23 whereas Bumrah is doing it at 19.xx. For instance, Holding has only 44 wickets more than Bumrah, which have come at around 43 runs extra per wicket. Historically bowling at home has been easier to most bowlers and they do take around 50% of the wickets at home. In case of Jasprit, it is only a little over 20%. He has barely minnow bashed either.

Bumrah is also the 3rd most successful Asian pacer outside Asia alongside Waqar and ahead of Imran and Kapil.

I think he deserves somewhere between 11-15 due to the above. He doesn't quite belong to the top 10 because longevity criteria needs to be stricter there.

It is very rare to see a bowler in the last 50 years who has done very well pretty much everywhere. Only Marshall is comparable.

It's still too hard to place him since it's an active career. I'm not putting him in the top 15 with only 200 wickets.

Marshall. Hadlee. McGrath. Ambrose. Steyn. Donald. Imran. Lillee. Garner. Akram. Holding. Trueman. Lindwall. Davidson. Pollock. Walsh.

Maybe I forgot 1-2 names but think Bumrah ranks ahead of everyone else. He is also a better bowler than people in this list as well but for now I feel I would wait for his career to get over before ranking him ahead of these legends. He is truly once in a lifetime talent.

India's schedule

2025-
5 tests vs Eng away
2 tests vs WI home
2 tests vs SA home

2026-
2 tests vs SL away
2 tests vs NZ away

Early 2027-
5 tests vs Aus home
I wish he does better to improve his record in NZ

9 Tests at home. It is going to spin pitches so his record may worsen. Let us see

India have 4-5 more tests in the second half of 2027 (besides the 5 tests vs Aus in early 2027).

Then England tour India in early 2028. So in the next 3 or so years, there's 28 tests in total and I expect Bumrah to play 20 or more of those tests.

Bumrah will be 34 years and 2 months by the time that England series comes around in Jan/Feb 2028. And thats around the time he should get his 300th wicket.

If he gets injured will he be as effective as before?
He is not old yet. He relies less on pace. Bowls around 138. Even if he comes down to 132-135 in few years, he will still be a handful. Look at Boland he was bowling at 130-133 yet he was the most effective bowler.

Bumrah's action, release point, accuracy and skill will keep him amongst the wickets even if his pace falls few ks in next 3-4 years.

By 2027 or 2028, he may average 25 each year. But that would still be great for India.

It really matters about his back and the possibility of another stress fracture which could take him out for a year or longer.

However I disagree about Bumrahs pace. He really is most effective at 140 level which makes his release point so awkward to adjust to.
