Tendulkar retiring after WC 2011 from all formats would have made him an unquestioned best since Bradman. The dip at the end made it more debatable.
Sachin at end of 2011 World Cup
177 Tests, 14692 runs, 56.94 avg., 51 centuries

Post 2011 WC
23 Tests, 1229 runs, 32.34 avg. 0 centuries.

I think that is the point. The last few years does affect standing.

That has to be one of the most selfish things a cricketer has ever done.
If he would have retired after winning the wc that would have been the best retirement ever... cause after a 21 career he finally won the wc and that too at his home ground but still carried on cause he was chasing 2 more records.. 100 centuries & 200 tests

Being selfish is a part of being great.
To be frank after 2011 WC he had two big tours of Eng and Aus lined up so one can argue he felt still a need to contribute. Being more selfish would have just meant a cushy retirement but then his entire life was cricket.

However if he really wanted to play 200 tests that is a stupid goal IMO.

That Marshall couldn't, cool.

Good talk.
Marshall never had a year where he took more than 50 wickets at a average lower than 17.8 despite having the best support bowlers you could ever imagine in his entire career

Bumrah just took 71 wickets in 2024 with an average of 14.92 with ****ing Siraj as his support bowler.

Infact fun fact Marshall never had a year where he averaged lower than 16.6 with the ball

Between Bumrah and Marshall one has a strike rate of 42 other has a strike rate of 47

Between Bumrah and Marshall one has 62 wickets in Australia at an average of 17 the other has 45 at an average of 23.15

So yes Marshall couldn't.

That's nonsense, Imran took 62 wickets at 13.25, Waqar 55 @ 15

record in one country and in one year doesn't make you a better pacer.

come back when Bumrah has played until 2027-2028 and taken 350wkts

Almost all of Sachin’s colleagues and peers have somehow continued with something related to cricket and are getting monetary benefit from it till now.

Tendulkar has deliberately distanced himself from holding any official position and works hard to maintain a clean image even after retirement.

Sachin was a part of BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Commitee. When accused he was a part of Mumbai Indians, he clarified that he was just an “icon” and doesn’t hold any position or is involved in any managerial decision and doesn’t get any money. He has always been conscious of his image and went on to resign from the CAC and works occasionally as a commentator and posts random stuff on Twitter.
That's because he was super image conscious and chose not to get his hands dirty compared with someone outspoken like Ganguly.

Or Gavaskar......

Though I didn't liked his stance during the Farmer's protests
1. Sachin speaking about “outsiders”
2. Sachin taking up a seat in Rajya Sabha

I am still surprised he both those things

The guy tries to be as non controversial as possible and stays away from politics but these two were unexpected.

To any other celeb these are very minor things but the fact he did those two things was just shocking to me.

I was thinking more about Tendulkar speaking about cricket issues more forcefully. He always tried to be so diplomatic and anodyne.
