He needs to score less than 20 runs (both innings combined) to end up with an average below 40.Oh he will definitely. How much he needs to score not to??
Doable?

What we're doing with Bumrah now, is probably akin to what I did with Smith at the end of 2019 when he was at something like 70 odd tests, an average around 63 and 20 something 100s. I was already comparing him with the upper echelon of cricketing batmanship. Most level minded folks said to give it time and that's what I hope we do now.Bumrah has to have his load managed. To be fair he is still producing comparable worldclass output but I think it's fair to say if you put him in the place of Hadlee in NZ he would be in a lot of trouble.
I give Bumrah a 50/50 chance to make it to 300 wickets. What we're doing with Bumrah now, is probably akin to what I did with Smith at the end of 2019 when he was at something like 70 odd tests, an average around 63 and 20 something 100s. He needs only 97 more wickets, it's way more than 50% probable to happen. I could argue he could end up with 350 wickets or even more.I give Bumrah a 50/50 chance to make it to 300 wickets.
I also give him a 50/50 chance of having a serious loss of form due to fitness issues.
I agree it's way to premature to be ranking him with any ATG.
Bumrah will never achieve Marshall’s absolute height.Ok let’s say it differently, Marshall has never achieved Bumrah’s statistical height, either on absolute terms or relative to his peers.
Both are 5'10.....Bumrah will never achieve Marshall’s absolute height.
Smith is in the top echelon of batsmen though, right? What we're doing with Bumrah now, is probably akin to what I did with Smith at the end of 2019 when he was at something like 70 odd tests, an average around 63 and 20 something 100s. Maybe. He is already 31 and on a physical decline as far as pace is concerned. He needs only 97 more wickets, it's way more than 50% probable to happen. I could argue he could end up with 350 wickets or even more.
Yeah but even a couple years ago we were speculating he would be best since Bradman.Smith is in the top echelon of batsmen though, right?
The absolute topSmith is in the top echelon of batsmen though, right?
Definitely in the conversation till now, though will definitely place him behind Hobbs and Tendulkar.Yeah but even a couple years ago we were speculating he would be best since Bradman.
I think that is the point. The last few years does affect standing.Definitely in the conversation till now, though will definitely place him behind Hobbs and Tendulkar.
He has an argument still so whats the pointYeah but even a couple years ago we were speculating he would be best since Bradman.
The point is the argument changes radically based on how Smith is even performing now series by series late career. He has an argument still so whats the point
Thought Bumrah was a bit taller. Both are 5'10.....
Now he is, top 10 for sure.Smith is in the top echelon of batsmen though, right?
I can't lie i did....The point is the argument changes radically based on how Smith is even performing now series by series late career.
If Smith averaged 15 in this series against Bumrah most of us would write him off completely as top tier much less best since Bradman. In fact, most of CW has let his ranking slip to the point where he isn't in contention for no.2. Let's be real.
Whereas two years ago he seemed to have that position quite solidly in his grasp.
The second best post war batsman seems fineDefinitely in the conversation till now, though will definitely place him behind Hobbs and Tendulkar.
