2nd Test at the MCG, Melbourne, 26 Dec - 30 Dec 2020

India only 80 ahead and they have a weak tail. subcontinental sides are also not renowned for ruthlessness when in ascendancy. Oz not out of this.
Agree. I hate to always be negative on India but I've seen them get ahead before against South Africa, England and squander it. This being said, I'm thrilled at this fightback and to put up a reasonable score is way beyond my expectations. Australia looked positively lethal in the first 10 overs!

Whatever it takes!!!
@Spark, I noted this in my post after the 36 ao last Saturday. There is a chance that Aus might be overconfident and blow it. A reminder here that the side is actually missing 5 first choice players in the XI, and were missing 3 in the last test too. I am not saying that as if that excuses the 36 all out, I am just pointing out that inspite of the missing players, I always expected a close series and the reason is that the Aussie batting is also not as solid as it can be.

And where are all the posters who blamed me for suggesting we play Jaddu as the allrounder at 7 with Pant at 6 and Ashwin at 8? Have long felt that a 5 man attack was the best option for us given the usual quality of our extra batsman. I honestly think Pant can be a good counterattacking #6 long term.

Really not sold on head as a test bat. I know he's had a decent start to his test career but he doesn't have a spine. Whenever the pressures on against good bowling or on a slightly helpful pitch he becomes useless. Would rather just cut the losses on him and give someone like Daniel solway or the mad dog a go.
Maddinson? Probably the worst choice ever.
Head is a solid compact leftie and is facing top class bowling pretty well and you want an inconsistent FTB.

I knew there was a reason I hated Head. He's had 30 innings with 11 scores between 19 and 38. Does all the hard work to get a start and then throws it away when most go on with it.

"solid" and "compact" are the absolute last words i would use to describe head's batting

I would love to know your Optometrist so I can avoid him/her.
maybe he just needs to get out another few times wafting with his bat well away from his pad for you to reconsider

i don't think the bloke is all that bad or indeed should be red-inked out as a future test prospect. but the compactness of his technique is absolutely the glaring weakness of his batting. he flashes outside off stump way, way too often with minimal footwork.
