Hopefully the fielding drops cancel each other out and everything goes to hand in the second innings.

But even if it does, will it matter?

Australia's bowling very limp in the third session too.

It's a great quartet of bowlers, but there are times where Australia could be smarter in how they use them (especially wrt workload). It's a long series and I'd be tempted to rest one of Starc/Hazlewood for the 3rd test. I don't know how Neser goes at the SCG but I'd give him a debut - guy completely deserves it.

India only 80 ahead and they have a weak tail. subcontinental sides are also not renowned for ruthlessness when in ascendancy. Oz not -out of this.
oh no not at all. but i just mean in terms of a general looseness about the cricket with bat and in the field.

Seriously impressed with how unflappable Jadeja's been. Not a single play and miss as far as I can tell. Superb judgement all around.
Jaddu is a #ProperAllrounder now.

I've always rated his batting higher than most here. PEWS describes his evolution well. He's had to develop this way because when he first broke into the Indian team straight out of the U19s he was shoehorned in as a lower order limited overs finisher, something he was completely unsuited to at the time. However I've always felt he had what it takes to play in the Top 6 at international level. He's got that batting nous that Spark likes talks about and clearly sees the ball well. He's now built a functional batting game around that.

I don't know about top 6 but his record more than justifies a permanent place at #7

It's one of those 'if my aunt had balls' kind of scenarios. Coming through the U19s and domestic stuff Jadeja showed the raw talent necessary to be a proper good Test batter, but also a proper good Test spinner. Was regularly batting top 6 whenever he played. The first time he had a run batting lower than 6 was when broke into the senior Indian team IIRC.

Agreed Aus are not out of this. Rest of the batting is pretty weak and they can be 20-5 easily.. Though Australia seemed mentally shot. Bowlers seemed tired and demoralized. Dropped catches didn't help but overall brilliant batting performance from India. Odds are 70-30 from here in favor of India IMO.

You just want to be really aware that there's a qualitative difference between "really good lower order batsman" and "actual top six batsman". There's a specific skillset for lower order batsman that doesn't guarantee you'll do well in the top six, which has broader needs beyond just having a decent-looking average.

Yes and Jadeja did not have that lower order skillset when he first debuted for India. He was being groomed as a middle order batsman, but upon breaking into the Indian team was forced into the lower order role, where he struggled, especially in limited overs cricket.

Who knows if he would have actually made it into the Indian Top 6 in a different universe where he was able to pursue that role. I believe he could have. I'm happy he's found batting success in Test match cricket anyways, even if it is mostly at 7/8. Like i said, I've rated him higher than most have. Heck I wanted him opening the batting lol

I didn't get to watch a huge amount of today but Australia seemed quite threatening at times early on but were insipid late in the day. Glad for Rahane he could get the ton, now **** off.
