I don't see what all the fuss is about. Played busily in the UAE and one good knock in Durban. Looked pants against pace the rest of the time...

I'm a Hampshire fan, but I don't think Vince is ready. He really struggled in Div 1 last year, test cricket is a bridge too far at the moment! JV is one for the future. He needs two decent Div 1 seasons first.

Anderson will need to be patient then. If Amir outbowls him in the summer will he retire?

Cook is actually the worst tosser of all captains to lead in over 40 tests Won toss: 19 times Lost toss: 26 times

That's wrong. ABDV averages less than 20 against Broad. That figure you picked up is average from matches in which Broad dismissed him which isn't the same thing.

AN Cook trails by 13 runs in the first innings. Has to set SC Cook a tricky target in the second innings. A ton required to win the Battle of the Cooks.

There is a distinct possibility that SC Cook could score more runs in this innings than AN Cook will score in the entire series. Stephen currently has 9 more runs than Alastair in the series so far.

Amla seems to be dropped quite a lot. I remember him being dropped in the 40's when he made 311 and he was dropped multiple times in his double ton. Is it just this series or has he been given lives alot throughout his test career?

I'm exaggerating, but I do think he becomes more determined in the face of insult. An extra 1% from anger brings out that extra sharpness in some sportspeople. It's a bit like when Richards sledged Gavaskar when the former decided to bat #4: "Man it don't matter where you come in, the score is...

    Retirements That Hurt

Jonathan Trott's downfall after the Gabba hurt England in the short term. I reckon Sri Lanka wouldn't have beaten us at home if Trott had been there to plunder their mediocre pace attack at #3.

Such comments are the way to get Anderson performing at his best. We'll need a good bowling performance as Root is bound to get out cheaply in both innings now the series is won.

SA only play on average 39 international matches a year since 2010 compared to England's 44. By and large SA play less tests which are the most likely culprits for injury.

Would Stuart Broad make India's strongest test XI?

McGrath did it 5 times IIRC. The English commentators mentioned it.

Would Stuart Broad make India's strongest test XI?

I'm sure this has been pointed out before but Broady is the most prolific wicket taker since this thread was started! Funny how these things turn out over time...

    Exasperated Ranting

Steve Smith is the most annoying cricketer in history. It's as if after Chester-le-Street in 2013, Lehmann turned to him and said "Steve, why don't you just be Don Bradman?" and Smith pulled it off in his own unique way. Since the end of 2014 has averaged 90 across all formats in Australia...

Your best current test team is..

It crossed my mind too but Hales only has a licence to play the "warner-esque" expansive opener role if Compton is there to back him up at #3. The fact he isn't even batting aggressively with a terrible strike rate shows a huge technical flaw outside off stump. That sort of problem is...

Bayliss says he wants England to win 3-0 so it's definitely going to be Woakes. Does anybody else think CW just has something missing? Obviously he's had very little luck but despite gaining a yard of pace, he doesn't threaten.

Your best current test team is..

The English top order has been enigmatic for quite a while. It think it's clear that Hales will be ditched for the summer to be replaced by the next cab off the rank. As for Compton, he does a job being difficult to remove which is gold dust for our delightful middle order. I think England...

    2015 Final Test Rankings - Steve Smith #1, Williamson #2, Voges #11

How useful is a Ponting when Kohli will play nearly half his games in India? If he want to be the no. 1 test batsman, he has to have a good home record!

    2015 Final Test Rankings - Steve Smith #1, Williamson #2, Voges #11

Virat has had a tough time batting in India with only three centuries that last of which was in 2013. That immediately puts him at a disadvantage as Smith, Root and Kane all score very strongly at home. Also, question marks over his performance in England with Smith and KW tonning up at Lords. I...
