Still need 145 off 20 overs. That isn't always a straightforward chase in T20.

SA batting unbelievably. I don't understand how Jordan plays in 50 over stuff... It's a strange pitch or two fabulous knocks, did England make a hash of their 318 or has the pitch got a bit easier?

    Another Mankading

The last thing the bowler wanted to do was bowl the ball. You could technically say he didn't enter his delivery stride so it wasn't out anyway. I think it probably was (and should be) out anyway as the Mankad is a legitimate dismissal if a non-striker is taking the mick.

Or the bowler could run in to, you know, ****ing bowl rather than looking to mankad the non-striker.

    Another Mankading

The fact that Windies needed to resort to this is a damning indictment on the team. It's as disgraceful as the underarm delivery bowled by Trevor Chappell. I have no doubt in my mind that if Zimbabwe had more than 1 wicket remaining or a steeper target than the paltry 3 runs needed to win, this...

I'm not so sure. England's record at Headingley is appalling, 1 English win in 7 tests since 2007. If you lead after the first test, that'll put huge pressure on England. While the SL batting is suspect, the bowling should keep them in the game although England will be on a high from SA rather...

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

I realise the shortcomings of my method. I overlooked how extraordinary the bowling strength was in that era: Ambrose, Walsh, Bishop, Waqar, Wasim, Donald, Pollock, Murali, Kumble. Averaging nearly 50 against that lot is very impressive.

    2nd best ODI side?

England has an awful WC and I thought it would take years for England to look be remotely competitive in this new form of ODIs. Yet first bilateral ODI series after the WC, England get 400 and chase 350 to win one of the best ODI series in years. Strauss has done an excellent job getting the...

Really? If you remove his record against England (arguably one of the weakest bowling sides Waugh faced), Steve has 7727 runs (the same number as Ian Bell) at 48.59. I could be reading far too much into statistics here but those numbers aren't the numbers of an ATG. Ashes great? Yes. ATG? I'm...

TBF, I don't know a huge amount about Steve Waugh. I know he was a great captain. Do most people consider him a great batsman? His record in the Ashes is incredible, although he faced arguably the weakest series of England sides in history.

Bell actually has a very similar record to Steve Waugh at 5 and 6 although his overall record is closer to Mark's. The not-outs have a huge effect on Swaugh's average, give him the same number of NO as his brother and his average is 44.

Prasad was a menace at Headingley last time SL toured. Eranga was okay with the ball. The unknown quantity is Chameera, who looks like a handful if wayward at times. I don't think we can take it for granted that he'll play well against Herath who is the best spinner who isn't taking steroids...

Disagree, I reckon he'll be in the 130 test club with about 500 wickets.
