    Agree. I wanted Southee gone a long time ago but I don't doubt that the man thinks he's good enough to be in the team and therefore an asset to it.

    Key quote for me: "Black Caps skipper Tom Latham said pre-match that the thought of parking Southee was never entertained." Says it all really. Either they aren't actually interested in winning, or they have no clue how to tell whether a player is actually good or not.

    People loved Wagner because he was obviously giving everything. Southee looks like he doesn't want to be there and the vibe from the rest of the team isn't much better than that.

    Dire, NZ. Just dire. I was thinking this is like the bad old days, but the difference then was that you expected - and got - nothing. If you want to see what a motivated, determined team does in response to an embarrassing loss at home you should watch the Australians.

    I don't actually think that mid-30s is that old for either of them. The way Southee has looked over the last couple of years he's seemed a lot older than 35. No excuses even if he was - Sir Paddles rolled out for his last test at the age of 40 and took 8 wickets, one on the last ball of his career!
