Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
13th January 2006 - Wellington vs. ND T20 (https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...istricts-northern-group-264917/full-scorecard)

Highlights: First sighting of DOOOWAYNE Bowden. Anton Devcich run out without facing. Decent innings from Peter McGlashan. Graeme Aldridge with a 4-wicket burst.

Infrastructure: Pretty mediocre looking seating in the RA Vance (unlabelled) stand. Museum stand was still open at this point. Buildings behind the ground to the West are still there rather than demolished to make way for a supermarket which was never built.

6th February 2007: State Shield Semi-Final

Highlights: A 50 from Big Jesse. The advertising dream combo of Nicol and (Hou)papa. Some kind of advert for French cars. Stu Mills, Iain O'Brien. Good stuff.

Infrastructure: You can still the long-gone trolley bus overhead cables behind the Wakefield Memorial. Miss the clunky old trundlers. Those floodlights are different too. Pretty sure the square must have changed orientation slightly as those wobbly black sight screens would be a bit more to the right these days. Nice plant growth round the concrete toilet block at the South end. Beautiful. Those bogs have tiny little windows at the urinals so you can still see out and watch the game whilst you piss. Luxury. Bit harder to replicate such facilities for the women, mind. But at least since this time, the number of toilets for women has been significantly increased and I think (though have no evidence other than gut feel) that more women attend games at the Basin these days than they used to.

11th January 2013: Wellington vs. Otago "HRV Cup"

This one's out of calendar order, but I'll post it so it doesn't get missed. Those heady days of overseas legends deigning to come and play in the old T20 bashathon. There's your Ryan ten Doeschate. Tamim Iqbal... Cameron Borgas?? And a little bit of Taita Legend Mark Houghton.

Not many photos here and the sun's doing a great job of bleaching it all out. Looks a decent turnout though.

Those were the days. I wish the Champions League had worked.

Keep it up Heath, awesome thread !

As Ed said , I wish that Champions League had worked as well. Would be great if some room in the calendar could be found for it again.

20th December 2009: Wellington vs. Canterbury

Highlights: A nice one-dayer where Wellington were sadly thrashed. Chris Martin and Corey Anderson ruled the roost. However, a sighting of the @Prince EWS favourite Cameron Merchant. Plus @Athlai stalwarts, Jimmy Franklin and Jeetan Patel. Well, I was there for O'Brien. A classic Wellington line-up.

Infrastructure: Well, those shitty blue wooden benches are long gone. They look nicely tarted up nowadays.

6th February 2009: Wellington vs. Otago "State" T20

This remains the game with the biggest margin of victory in New Zealand T20 and once again Wellington received a hammering.

Highlights: A Hamish Rutherford masterclass. Sightings of Mark Houghton and Graham Napier! Harry Boam at 10 and Houghton at 11 and Wellington still couldn't rack up a hundy

Infrastructure: That little maroon shed has gone, replaced by the villa house which has been moved along. Where those cars are parked, there are now nets which were made a necessity for the Basin to retain international status as I recall.

4th April 2009: New Zealand vs. India

New Zealand escape with a draw despite being hammered. Tim Southee getting the treatment and taking 2 token wickets (Plus ça change and all that) https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...aland-vs-india-3rd-test-366629/full-scorecard

Highlights: Ross Taylor the undoubted NZ star here. Harbhajan Singh doing too well for my liking, but NZ had no business escaping here really. Iain O'Brien outbatting Southee, which would become a common theme during Southee's batting career - lesser batsmen showing better application.

Infrastructure: A first picture of what would become the Sol Bar with the marquee on scaffolding at the South-West end of the ground. Not much chop these pics, but I did get turned away a couple of times with my decent camera which had a telephoto lens (c.f. post #9)

5th December 2010: Wellington vs. Canterbury

Highlights: Luke Wright scoring well for Wellington and ten Doeschate now in Canterbury colours. Damien Wright and Mitchell Claydon the other overseas players. Not many great photos here, but a bit of Wright, tendo and I think that's Richie Sherlock sporting the mullét.

Infrastructure: Not much to see here, but definitely plenty of speakers around the ground in the photos I've got - more speakers than in preceding years. The inexorable advance of unnecessary music into cricket.

March 2011: Christchurch Earthquake Fundraiser

Highlights: Meeting Sir Ian McKellen really. Happy days. It was a fun day out at the Basin, fans allowed to sit on the grass at the side like the good old days. Plenty of photos of this one.

Look at that! You can increase the capacity of the ground by letting fans sit around the edge! Who knew?

28th December 2011 - "HRV Cup" Wellington vs. Auckland

Highlights: Murali playing for Wellington and opening the bowling. Brendan Taylor was Wellington's other overseas player. Quality Auckland line-up and some Cachopa vs. Cachopa action. Get out your protractors! Treated to a James Franklin masterclass who set a then new-record of most sixes hit for Wellington in T20s.... 24!

Infrastructure: Not much change here. Can see the practice nets on the outfield that annoyed the ICC though.

New Zealand vs. South Africa - March 2012

Highlights: Kane Williamson secured a draw in this match with a hard-fought 4th innings ton. Mark Gillespie (!) took 6 for a hundred and some. I was there on day 3 and after rain impacted days 1 and 2, I watched Alviro Petersen and JP Duminy rack up the runs. Williamson bowling 13 a decent number of overs and then Flynn and Guptill standing firm to the close of play. Taylor was captain but had to retire hurt with a broken hand in the 1st dig. Merkel was on fire.

A few years ago I believe there was talk about extending the motorway to go over the Basin to help sorten the time it taks to get to the airport. I hope that has died a death and no longer being considered.
