*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

Who would you have made captain instead of Southee? Latham didn't really impress when he got the chance in England and earlier when Kane was out with his elbow issue. He would presumably be next in line. Southee has definitely declined with his bowling this season but have the teams results...

Ten players you wished you could have seen live in their prime?

Batsmen dominated list (unlucky to miss out Joel Garner, Malcolm Marshall, Bishen Bedi, Abdul Qadir, Ian Botham Garfield Sobers and Ritchie Benaud, Derek Underwood). Viv Richards Barry Richards Graeme Pollock David Gower Imran Khan Greg Chappell Wally Hammond (my grandad saw him get 300 at Eden...

New Zealand doom and gloom thread

I can't remember who it was now, but one of the players from that era said Turner was very good on technical and tactical issues but needed someone like DJ Graham as manager who Cairns later responded to really well. Instead they had Alabaster who was a similar character. The fielding under...

*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

They ran into Danny Morrison and Ken Rutherford at their peaks. Actually Greatbatch opened in that series and was charging Merv Hughes. Maybe Finn Allen instead of Young could been the way to go 😯

I mean it was also because he returned from Sri Lanka after the bomb blast in '92 and the Board and Peter McDermott never forgave him but it looks extra ridiculous given how we have fared against Australia since. Heinrich Malan is hopefully being sounded out.

*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

One of the crazy episodes in Black Caps history is Warren Lees was sacked as coach at the end of the 92/93 season after squaring the test series against Australia 1 all and losing the ODI series 3-2 with the final match being decided in the last over.

He should have borrowed his dad's old mantra about 'the journey'. That would have set them off.

Pitch had flattened out and ball was older so they were always in it. Still, when Head went I thought we pretty much had the game in the bag. People at work don't want to talk about it, too painful.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Ajaz got through 49 overs. Mammoth spell. Gritty effort to hold CD out.

*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

Maybe, although just watching the replay of today it seems like it was the strategy as much as anything that was never going to work. No slips, guys out on the leg side boundary, just bowl short and hope a mistake would come. I think they got Henry to do the same thing to Bairstow in England and...

Dismal, didn't think that Danny Morrison inspired win in 1993 would best the last one at home for over 30 years. A key component of winning the WTC was Jamieson. Could go through his career not playing Australia in a test. I had pretty much written the Black Caps off once he was out of this series.

He is although if I was Carey I would be a bit stiff about him not playing out that last over.

Must be bowling well in the nets? Hard to understand otherwise. Was erratic in Wellington and again here.

Was thinking of that as a reason not to dismiss Australia's chances after Head was out. Carey was possibly at last chance saloon too after a poor series with the bat and a dropped catch in the second innings. Good on him. Wish we had bowled Phillips and maybe Ravindra earlier.

Yeah, I hate how reluctant we are to use spin even when our spinner has a five wicket bag in the series and the alternatives aren't great. This goes back to Latham and Kane's test captaincy too.

Lyon bowled 16 overs and got 3 wickets. Looked to be getting a lot of turn. Why is Phillips only getting a third over now?

Did they not see how effective Lyon was yesterday?

At least Warner copped his punishment. The bowlers got off completely. The amount of grief he gets is embarrassing.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Would add Foxcroft to any A side. Heaphy is having an excellent run with two fifties last week also. Cumming or Parkes could be a potential 3rd young opening candidate.
