Best Players of Spin

Yeah what I find asinine is people using spinners like Raju and Saqlain to come to conclusions. Lara played both what a handful of times. Proves nothing. Lara faced Warne and Murali much more extensively and more than handled them. Anyone remembers Hirwani who famously took 16 wkts on debut vs the WI. Lara faced him in the Caribbean in a first class match and completely demorilised the kid. He did the same to guys like Kaneira etc. And fwiw, Kumble from India wasnt big issue for him vs india, it was surprisingly their seamers.

Lara himself stated his issues, so I was quoting him.

And what's wrong with a spinner like Saqlain? The guy gave even Tendulkar problems at a time when Tendulkar was smashing Warne.

Lara played Saqlain in exactly one series at a time when literally every bowler was giving Lara issues (1997). And fwiw, I already did say Sehwag is the best player of spin I've seen. My issue is, uniquely whenever BCL is brought up in a complimentary fashion, you have the same set of people trickling in with their little caveats. Lara made 153* "oh but Lara was dropped on 147 so it's not that great." Lara is great vs spin but he struggled vs the great Raju." And so on...

It is very clear to anyone who watched and understands cricket that this is just bs.
It is very clear how Lara was made to look foolish in 1993 India tour by Raju, that Shewag and Sidhu were pretty much ahead of any one playing spin. I would even put Mahela J above Lara when it comes to playing spin. He was not flamboyant as Lara but boy, he scored heavily against spin.

It's not like Shewag and Sidhu has not handed Warne and Murali, there arses.

Oh yes, that counts for nothing when other two have not struggled against a single spinner.

Sure, I would think for seasoned posters, these minor issues are legitimate points when talking about things like 'best player of spin ever' or 'best innings ever'. Nobody is is suggesting Lara wasn't great against spin overall or 153 wasn't a top tier knock.

I already rated Sehwag as the best. Sidhu, I'm on the fence because by your own admittance, the Murali he faced early on, isn't the same Murali who was near unplayable (especially at home) post 2000. But whatever.

Whatever it takes!!!
Its obvious to anyone who has actually watched cricket that Sidhu was, at best, equal 3rd when it comes to playing spin in the 90s side - Sachin, Azhar and I would put Kambli at the same level as Sidhu when it comes to smacking spin.

The statsguru salty needs to take a hike. The CC forum is always better when they post lesser and actual discussions take place than the biased crap they drool out.

Lol dude every single post of yours reeks of saltiness. I'm sure I'm not the only one who notices.

Anyways, Sidhu clearly the best of the three against spin. He was the one actually attacking the spinners up front and taking risks.

Between Azhar and Tendulkar, I would go with Azhar. Tendulkar was a good player of spin, not a great one, and had genuine trouble with the doosra at times and could be fairly reserved against spin. Would rate Laxman slightly ahead of Tendulkar against spin.
