If a player kicks on for long enough there's always going to be an occasion when their arse gets handed to them. Lara smashing around spin bowlers isn't exactly a rarity, anyway.

I don't even care about the "Warne got stick against great players of spin" criticism. Guy was the most exciting cricketer I've watched. Just watching him going through a spell against a couple of set batsmen was pure theater.
Yeah, this. Warne was so often utterly mesmerising to watch

Tendulkar ranked seventh in the same list which had Warne fifth. We won't hear about that from the cabal though.

Another guy who is dreadfully overrated is McGrath. Good bowler, but clearly not as good s Hadlee, and nowhere near Steyn or Marshall.
Moderate upgrade over Anderson, if we are generous.

Lara massacred him in 1999 tour . He was dropped from AUS side due to it. Kallis had excellent record vs Warne iirc.
In 1998 Warne had to have shoulder surgery. He had played injured through the India test series. According to Richie Benaud his shoulder was so messed up it was hanging together by a thread. Shoulder surgery is major for a spin bowler and after it Warne could never again bowl the flipper (his biggest wicket taking ball 92-97). He had other minor injuries that plagued him over the next couple off years.

Warne had a second peak in tests from 04-07. Like most ATG quicks, during this era he didn't have the same level of talent as before but he out- thought his victims.

The closest we saw to peak Warne playing against India was in 04 where he averaged a bit over 30, which is probably a fairer reflection of their ability to play him and his abilities.

Wrist spin on Indian pitches is very difficult to do well. You basically have to be quick through the air - Kumble pace - to do well. The low and slow nature of the pitches don't give much assistance to leggies. A finger spinner who can dart it in will usually do much better in India.

Make no mistake, Warne 93-97 was the most naturally talented spun bowler the world has ever seen.

And as others have said, his theatrics were mesmerising. I was watching some highlights of the 96 WC final and even though he didn't get much it of that pitch and I was mainly watching for de Silva's innings, it was easy to get sucked into watching Warne's spells. He was hypnotic and generated excitement and interest like no other. A once in a lifetime player.

Extremely poor effort.
I mean if he was remotely serious then this is an all time terrible post since it doesn't even make sense. Jimmy's a condition reliant swing bowler, quite different from how McGrath operated.

If it isn't then good on him for drawing the comparison to Anderson because it's bound to strike a few nerves owing to its utter wrongness.

Borges so transparent it's not worthy of a substantive reply. You don't rile people up unless you convince them your posts are serious. You have to slip some kernel of truth into them; enough to trigger your targets with a prickly fact which you maneuver a certain way to push their buttons and cause them angst. That's the art which the true greats master.

Borges' effort here is barely kindergarten standard. Like most of his posts in general.
