I doubt the 2nd test can be played since Colombo is under 3 feet of water. 1st and 3rd test should be okay.Curious to see the new stadium in Pallekele.

Yeah some areas are like swimming pools currently. Terrible floods but higher ground is fine for the moment. However all that might change depending on the weather in the next few days. If we have another downpour like yesterdays things will definitely worsen.

Yesterdays rain was the worst I've seen in years. Didn't even stop and didn't look like stopping at all. Lasted through the night as well I reckon. Ridiculous weather. Just saw a few cars completely submerged in the news, terrible.

Took a day off from work today just in case there was more rain in the evening. Also I caught a bit of a cold yesterday + its my mothers birthday so decided to stay in.

If it's so obviously not going to be playable so far out from the match, couldn't it be moved to a drier location?

Dambulla is ringing a bell, doesn't it. But this cyclone has hit the whole country. Even Dambulla got 150mm of rain. Colombo was the worst hit, 420mm! That was the highest after 1992, where 500mm rained on one single day. These are once in decade rains, so no point in blaming the organisers, because no one can predict cyclones two years prior. But the good news is that PSS has a very good drainage system, and what ever rain water will drain quickly.

So, thanks to the warmup match being washed out, we're still not sure what our best team is....

Who keeps wicket? Baugh or Thomas? And who out of Pascal and Russell will play?

I really hope Russell plays. I think he is a superior bowler to Pascal and he can really bat as well, which could prove vital considering our lower orders previous performances against spinners.

I think Baugh will play, they are not going to shove Thomas into the side without any practice at all.

My predicted team for the 1st test:

Gayle
Barath
Bravo (Darren) - Though I want Dwayne at 3
Chanderpaul
Nash
Bravo (Dwayne)
Baugh
Sammy
Russell
Shillingford
Roach

How is the weather looking today in Sri Lanka?

Like i said elswhere i really don't know what to expect, SL are favorites of course but i do feel we'll put up a fight at least.

SL might go for the floowing team: Dilshan, Paranavithana, Sangakkara, M. Jayawardane, Samaraweera, Mathews, P. Jayawardane, Randiv, Herath, Thushara and Fernado. It is long on batting, but Malinga in on a bit more luvely pitch would have been the best to look forward. Somewhere down the line they might thow in Kaushal Silva, the keeper batsmen in PJs place. Since Galle has some life in the pitch, it may be the perfect opportunity to do it.

I hope something comes good for the West Indies. Cricket seems to be dying out there in the Caribbean. Although I get the feeling that the Sri Lankans will be having them for dinner this series.

Interesting debates for both sides starting XI's. I notice there's no room for Sulieman Benn in the sides picked on here, I would have thought with Dwayne Bravo able to offer the side some vital balance, it's a decent chance to go with Benn and Shillingford on a pitch that's likely to offer assistance to the spinners.

Looking forward to seeing how Bravo jnr goes, there's been rave reviews about his similarities to Lara by folk on here, so I'm pretty excited to watch his style.

In contrast to the importance Dw Bravo offers WI giving them five bowling options, SL will miss the overs offered by Angelo Mathews who won't bowl due to a thigh strain. Was looking forward to a direct comparison between these two all-rounders, I'm a big fan of Mathews and think he's pretty underrated.

I hope Mendis gets the nod as the second spinner and can recapture some of his early form, it's another player I want to watch much closer. Dammika Prasad impressed me against India, and while I believe he may be left out, keeping my fingers crossed he'a squeezed into the eleven.

So much to look forward to in this series, after neither side have managed much Test cricket this year, plenty of ecxciting talents on show, let's hope the weather's kind, the pitches are not too batsman friendly, and both sides manage some top Test cricket. Like most people, I do anticipate a SL series victory, but competitive nonetheless.

Benn's still suspended.

That may explain it then. Cricinfo threw a curverball in and named him in their starting XI.
Cricinfo's "probable" sides have a knack of being extremely improbable. I remember for the 1st ODI against Sri Lanka, they predicted Australia to have Steve Smith at #8, Doherty at #9 and only two quicks.

New Zealand's team for the current Test against India was supposed to feature a batting allrounder at #10, batting behind Jeetan Patel but opening the bowling as part of a two-man pace attack. Even in the days where Franklin actually was a bowler, he would never bat behind Patel.

And in the end Patel didn't even play. Neither did Franklin.
