McCullum is only 22 and while his keeping wasnt that flash in that innings it hasnt been to bad other than that, Ha has also scored 50's in just under half of his test innings.
He has got himself a decent future.
There's little doubt in my mind that he's been the one real positive in New Zealand's performances so far.

I think Pathan is going to be (some may say has already become) the next Akram, Balaji the next Bedser, Nehra the next Davidson, Kartik the next Bedi (minus the 'patka' or mini turban) and Harbhajan (if he can get back his old 'crooked' action) the next Mutthaih.

India is clearly going to be the greatest bowling attack of all times in the history of the game.

8-) :p :D 8-) :p :D 8-) :p :D

You've obviously found out the whole point of CricketWeb. :D

He was picked too early, did not keep well enough and was dropped. Now plays for Essex and is not really in contention for a place. Read is a better keeper and Jones is a better batsman.

Gilchrist made his test debut aged 27yrs 356days [according to CI.com]
Jones made his test debut aged 27yrs 271days [according to CI again]

Both are aggressive wicket keeper batsmen.

So that's similar....

First 3 matches...

Gilchrist 81, 6 vs Pakistan 1999/2000
Jones 38, 10* vs West Indies 2003/2004
Gilchrist 6, 149* vs Pakistan 1999/2000
Jones 46, DNB vs New Zealand 2004
Gilchrist 28, DNB vs Pakistan 2003/2004
Jones 100, DNB? vs New Zealand 2004

Both got a 100 in first 3 games, both batted at no 7.

The similarities never end  .....

My prediction though is that Jones will end up with an average in the mid to late 30's, which will just about be enough to see off Read, Foster and co for the next 10 years.

One thing for sure, McCullum and Jones are definitely two quality keeper-batsmen and I'd be pretty confident that their futures will be bright enough to boast about when they retire.

I was waiting for someone to bring this up...
It was obviously going to happen - I mean Patel's started his career with lots and lots of runs with the bat hasn't he?

You have to hand it to Parthiv Patel, being such a little guy facing those beasts they call Australian fast bowlers, and SUCCEEDING.

If he were English, tiny and left handed (which he is), and made a half century (which he did), you guys up in England would praise him over the roof.

But, since he's Indian, he's got poor glovework and shouldn't be playing test cricket...

Sometimes the double standards never fail to amuse me (please not im saying this in the lightest possible sense).

Small point, but in general on here it appears to me that it's Indian's calling for his head and Englishmen rating him.

Most of the indian fans I talk to generally have positive feelings towards Parthiv's inclusion.

I really dont want to hijack the thread here.

Back to Geraint Jones.

Listened to his interview on tms on bbc.co.uk, and i felt nothing but happiness for the guy. I hope he grows from strength to strength really. England need a fighter, and with Jones I think they've got one.

i dont think you could call nathan bracken,b.lee or brad williams(although he does look like a pig, wonder why he wasnt named hogg?) as beasts! i'll give him credit and say that he was very impressive particularly against pakistan in the third test where he came in as an opener and managed to blunt out that new ball.gutsy player the young lad.

sort of like how all the indians have been praising pathan and saying that hes the next wasim?oh there was also a wise guy who put him on his all time XI.
btw he did score a century!

Another small point, but it happens with every team. And the majority prefer Patel, there's only one guy who wants Nayan Mongia back..

Oh and they are the easiest to handle aren't they? You have some dumb idea that Australia was all in favour of India and the Australian bowling was bullshit.

Intresting......a guy who thinks Tendulkar is the most overrated player EVER is ridiculing others who think Pathan could become as good as Wasim (not that i think he will). And there's this wise guy who leaves out Tendulkar from his all time XI....

He succeeded in the sense he wasn't embarrassed.

At this stage, his glovework isn't up to Test level. I admit the standard of world keeping has dropped recently, but Patel makes crucial mistakes match after match, with few signs of improvement.

It was worthy of some praise, in his 62(50) in Sydney he played Lee very well and was not afraid to pull and hook the short stuff. He did well enough to be considered good enough to open the batting in Pakistan...where again he impressed.

At 5/650, it's pretty safe to say it's a pressure free situation.

Sure was but he still did well and he scored quickly too...he showed he could bat unlike AA and others who still got out..We needed quick runs then and he delivered exactly what was required.
