The rate he scores at suggests he takes risks, and as with many other players, runs in that style will come in CC, but not necessarily in Tests, where the bowling is of a much higher quality.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he does blossom into a Test batsman, but I feel that he may need ot work on his technique a little first.
Nahh you are making assumptions.

Graham Pollock batted like that in Test's Gilchrist bat's like that in Test cricket Lara bats like that quite often.
I have seen Ponting, Tendulkar, Hayden and more succsesfully bat in an aggresive nature at Test level.

You dont necicarily have to take risk's to score quickly ether some players just have great timing and strength.

Hence I said suggests and not anything for certain ;)

Seriously though, if he goes out to try and score like that in a Test Match, I cannot see it working, it's a case of the gulf between County Cricket bowlers and Test bowlers which is increasingly shown by the players being called up :(

Also that Test and one cricket is different. In Tests he has all day to bat to make as many runs as he likes, whereas he has to keep the scoreborad ticking to make as many runs as possible for Somerset or England.

Well If I would you I would be more possitive.

Who know's he may just have the talent to overcome that gulf between Test and County cricket. I mean with a FC avrage of 52 you would not normaly be supprised to see him avrage 40+ in test cricket.

I think he has more chance off doing well than a batsman who just deffend's all day and wait's to get out.

It says on Pietersens Cricinfo profile that he's eligible in 2005.
Really I believed he was eligble in 2004. That was why he got named in the acadmay shortlist.

"Pietersen, who was born in Pietermaritzburg, has blazed a trail with Nottinghamshire since he joined them in 2001 as a home-qualified player - by virtue of an English mother and a British passport. He has made little secret of the fact that he sees his international future with England. The only concern is that nobody seems sure when his residential qualification is complete. Pietersen and his county say it is in July 2004, the England & Wales Cricket Board counter that it is not until the start of the 2005 season. It is possible that there will be a compromise, and Pietersen will be considered eligible from the end of the 2004 season."

Troughton - I think he shouldn't have played in the ODIs (he averages 31), yet maybe he deserved a test spot (FC average 46). There wasn't really room though so I guess he'll have to wait until the winter or next summer. He's got time on his side!

I would be very surprised personally if you look at the long list of players who can easily score runs in County Cricket, but cannot make it at the top level - Think Hick and Ramprakash for a start...

Then again, not many people in this thread actually criticised him, and if he were an Aussie with this record the over would be changed to under!

Do you really think he would make the Australian team?

Any way I am happy for him I have nothing against him at all I just though it would be a good topic to bring up considering he had really been struggeling at the time.

Please someone start a "Ajit Agarkar is Overrated" thread!!

So he can score 200 runs and take 10 wickets against the Kiwis.

If he does, I will change my name to Buddhika Fernado (my user name on cricket web).
