Honestly are Hall & Adams that great? no..they're in & out of the South African side all the time.

Lets not forget that Jayasuriya is rated as one of the best all-rounders in the world..he seems to do the trick with his bowling so I still think both attacks are fairly even right now.
Would you care to name these players in Sri Lanka who would even match Hall and Adams for effectiveness?

BTW Jayasuriya only has 69 Test wickets, which does not put him as one of the best Test alltounders in the world.

Zondeki, Pretorious, Hall, Adams etc..all of who you were rubbishing before the Eng/S.A series..
Why do you persist in making things up about what I have and haven't said.

I have never mentioned them before yet you say I was rubbishing them?

That's now several times in the last few days you've said I've said things, yet I haven't at all.

I think we both agree Pollock and Murali fall into the category of truly world class, which suggests they are even.

Then you have Ntini v Vaas. Well their overall records are similar. But if you look at Vaas, he had an amazing year in 2001 (58 @ 22), but since then he has 31 wickets at 41, whereas Ntini has 78 wickets at 26. Ntini has played 16 tests to Vaas's 12, but still it suggests Ntini has improved into a very good test match bowler, if not quite filling the boots of AA (the other one). Vaas though, has been very ordinary, much like the rest of the SL pace attack.

So if you call that even (which i wouldn't), you are left with a few mediocre pacers and the part time spin of Jayasuriya, Arnold and De Silva against Kallis (world class allrounder), Hall (developiung into an excellent all rounder, troubled England this summer), Adams (useful spinner), and the others (Pretorius, Willoughby, Zondeki, etc).

I would say South Africa have the stronger attack, which is one reason why they are ranked 2nd in the world and SL are 7th.

However in ODIs Jayasuriya is rated about number 4 or 5 on the list of All-Rounders...

Does it really matter if we're talking about Tests though? As a Test bowler, he's a handy option if the main bowlers cannot do the job.

He is a classic case in point - when it comes to having to bowl well to get wickets (in Tests) he cannot do it, but in the slog game he can pick them up...

His brand of Left Arm Spin, quickish flatish stuff, will allways be more effective in the OD game. A point that should not be ignored by any spinner, you are not likely to take Test wickets with flat quick straight stuff that doesn't turn much.

69 wickets at 33-34 shows he is a very useful backup, especially since he only started bowling more in Tests from about 4 years ago.

Anyway back to the main arguement, Sri Lanka have no backup bowlers of any real quality, I mean the only ones I know which are even half decent are Zoysa who appears to have lost it of late and Fernando who has pace but is very inconsistant. Charithra Buddika looked useful but not really a world beater. Chandana is a useful if erratic leggie and they have the fastish off-spin of Dharmasena, Dinuka Hettiarachchi the left armer and a few others.

South Africa have an embarrisment of riches and have just unearthed Hall. They have Boje, Adams and (although I don't think he's anywhere near Test Standard) Robin Peterson.

As for the Ntini vs Vaas arguement, well Vaas has had to bowl on home pitches which give nothing, and in England he really had no luck. Vaas edges it for me. Murali is the best spinner in the world, Pollock the best seamer, both are different, both are amazing bowlers.
