He knocked together a few runs against Pakistan, WI and Sri Lanka in England.
Certainly does - and what a great club we are :PBazza said:He is 26 and apparently plays grade cricket in Sydney during the winter with Mosman.
True but he does have a better record in Asia.Mr Mxyzptlk said:He knocked together a few runs against Pakistan, WI and Sri Lanka in England.
No, not really.Craig said:And have you noticed a trend that he has done well on the sub contenient and not as well away from it?
So what does that tell you about him - doesn't make him sound like a Test batsman to me, but in ODI's, yes please.Tim said:I like the look of Pietersen...but then again I said that about Troughton and he hasn't really put it together just yet.
Everytime Pietersen scores a century for Notts it comes in less than 80 balls usually.
My definition of better would be that he averages more there than away from there!Craig said:True but he does have a better record in Asia.
For the 1st year of his career, maybe longer, he every century he scored in all cricket for England (around 3-4) all came in a loosing cause.Tim said:Well...what about this question:
How many times has Trescothick scored a high amount of runs in a crucial or close match (tests only)?
I don't know the answer, I just want to know because if he has then he shouldn't be called overrated..however if he's scored runs against pretty mediocre bowling attacks and with little pressure on him then I guess you can say he's a pretender.
Hmmm.....Gilchrist.....marc71178 said:So what does that tell you about him - doesn't make him sound like a Test batsman to me, but in ODI's, yes please.
Hmmmm, yet his record is much more impressive in 4D cricket, just the arguement you used for Troughton.marc71178 said:So what does that tell you about him - doesn't make him sound like a Test batsman to me, but in ODI's, yes please.
Gilchrist has been far less successful in the shorter game than most of the other Australian batsmen, yet he is one of the best batsmen in the world in Test matches. Interisting for someone pidgeon-holed as a OD player.Mr Mxyzptlk said:Hmmm.....Gilchrist.....
That's my point. I was saying that just because he plays that way doesn't necessarily mean that he will be better in ODI's.Rik said:Gilchrist has been far less successful in the shorter game than most of the other Australian batsmen, yet he is one of the best batsmen in the world in Test matches. Yup I was backing you upMr Mxyzptlk said:That's my point. I was saying that just because he plays that way doesn't necessarily mean that he will be better in ODI's.
Bats at 7 and keeps wicket, therefore is not selected as a Specialist Batsman.Mr Mxyzptlk said:Hmmm.....Gilchrist.....
The rate he scores at suggests he takes risks, and as with many other players, runs in that style will come in CC, but not necessarily in Tests, where the bowling is of a much higher quality.Rik said:Hmmmm, yet his record is much more impressive in 4D cricket, just the arguement you used for Troughton.
Pietersen's FC average is 52 scored at 75 runs every 100 balls or so. His OD average is 39. I wouldn't pidgeon-hole him as a OD player simply because of the rate of his scoring, especially if his FC average is far superior.
