i relate it to a movie star and an average person, a movie star gets caught speeding and its a huge thing, an average person does it and its 'who cares'.... im just sick of people constantly whinging about old incidents, move on....
That's the nature of fame - get used to it. It still doesn't mean the "movie star" isn't deserving of the criticism they get if they make a racist remark. To expect the same degree of attention to be paid to Joe Blow down the street is just naive.

But if you think Lehmann got what he deserved, the "OH NO THE BIG BAD AUSSIES ARE PICKING ON US... LEAVE US ALONE BOOF!" remark's a bit much, IMO. Letting sleeping dogs lie is one thing - re-interpreting it as the Sri Lankans "playing victim" or "whining" is another.

well IMO this whole thread is about other countries trying to play victim and accusing the australians of unfair play....

im not naive and i appreciate the nature of fame, im just saying they are as bad as each other as you said... but one is potrayed as worse off... you do make a good point however

The aussie team can learn a whole lot from the WI team of the 70s and 80s.
They kept their arrogance on the field and not off of it despite being far more successful than the current aussies.
plus aussies catch heat because their authorities dont play fair and protect their players for the same crimes that they cry their **** off when others do it.
Like i said before, the aussie team/management can dish out but cant take it.

being far more successful than the current aussies........ hmmm arguable.... remembering the current aussies late 90's/00's hold the record for most tests victories on the trot, along with the most dominant world cup campaign of all time, no doubt about that..

Some of the games between India and WI in the 70's and 80's were very spiteful games from my memory, and I do remember reading about some of the nasty clashes not long ago. I will try to find some of the incidents.

I believe this is why so many Indian supporters believe Lloyd has a grudge against India.

Also in the cricket show on the first day of the test I watched an interview of Shoiab and he said that Australia was the first team to congratulate the opposition and were the first to show admiration of opposing players talents.

A lot of players have said that about Australia.. I also remember the Bangladesh and Zimbabwe players all said Australia was the team that would offer the most word's of advice and spend time with the young players helping them.

spiteful on the field. Yes.
But they didnt brag outside the field and maintained a pretty low key and humble profile off of it.

Most dominant ? how do you figure that ?
AUS in the last 3 world cups have lost one final and won 2 cups.
WI in the first 3 world cups won two finals and lost one.
Aus just equalled the past experience of a team that has 'been there, done that'.

And record for most test victories on a trot ? aye. true.
But IIRC, WI streak was interrupted by a weather-affected game.
Nothing they could do about that.
And WI had a 13 year unbeaten streak in cricket where they never lost a series.
They have by far gone the most # of series and most # of years without a loss-28 i believe.
and they lost only one series ( 1981 NZ) in a 19 year span from 1976 to 1994.

AUS cant even begin to get close to that.
Oh and no other team held parity with the OZ during their dominant years.
IND holds a parity with OZ, having won 7 of the last 15 tests between them and having won more BG trophy than AUS has.

This AUS team has a LONG way to go before it can equal the greatness of the WI team.
IMO, Bradman's invincibles are the closest that comes to the WI team of the 70s and 80s...and the saffie team of late 60s....even according to OZ experts, this team isnt their best ever.

haha not even close? haha thats a bit rich, the last world cup AUS went through un0defeated... smashing the rivals, the way they play there cricket is of a dominant nature, i cant remember the last time aus lost a test series to tell you the truth, its true that we have drawn a couple.... i think we will have a new title holder by the end of australias current crop of players....

and BTW, how can australia be accused of being arrogant off field????

Thats not what I have read, there was great animosity between the two groups on and off the field.

Australian players themselves will tell you they are entertainers as well as cricketers. The have a far greater role than the players from decades ago and just like the game has evolved so has the players.

Of course you dont like the Aussie players and supporters because you are a passionate Indian supporter, but to make up bullshlt to try and convince others that Australians are somehow not good enough to be praised for their achievements just stinks of jealous hatred.

Nookie you have to be the biggest bitch, sorry for winning? Its called celebration, yes maybe it can go over the top but you would to if you won. Sure i dont encourage sledging but it ads a bit of spice to the game. Then you go ahead and make this thread trying to prompt a fight, so have a ****ing cry and go have a cigar or something

Its just jealousy face it, just because your team isn't at its best you don't have to come whining here ****ing tired of your anti_australian remarks its really ****ing me off.

* I havn't read everyones replies just annoyed at this guy *

Australian player have also made significant contributions to charity organisations aswell, not just money but effort and time. Some players have started up new charities and others have been involved in visiting and helping children with cancer and other charities.

Some of the work they do with development of juniors and assisting coaches would not be seen by the wider community and is not generally publicised outside of the area they work.

Some people jump on the band wagon of nit picking every word they say or anything they do which is just a bad side effect they have to put up with and they do that well.

The current Australian team is made up of many different individuals who as a group have played and conducted themselves in a way Australia can be proud.

thats no biggie.
WI went undefeated in 1979 world cup too.
They crushed the opposition as well.
Last time OZ lost a series ? 3 years ago 2001 vs IND.
Thats 3 years unbeaten streak.
Try four times that and then you are getting into the achievement territorry of the WI greats. Like i said, the AUS havnt achieved HALF of what the WI team of the late 70s and 80s achieved.
Unbeaten in a series for more than a DECADE.
Didnt lose a test series in 28 or 29 series played straight
One loss in nearly TWO DECADES

you'd be tough pressed to find articles where one WI player is slagging off an Indian player or vice versa in the media.
The whole animosity was based around two players: Vengsarkar and Marshall.
I am not for showmanship and shyte-talk so i prefer the era where cricketers kept the hype and cricket ON field and didnt snipe away through the media and overhyping each other.

Of course you dont like the Aussie players and supporters because you are a passionate Indian supporter, but to make up bullshlt to try and convince others that Australians are somehow not good enough to be praised for their achievements just stinks of jealous hatred.
hatred ? you are an extrimist individual but dont assume that otehrs are like that. Hate is too strong a word and i am not assinine or stupid enough(unike you i guess) to HATE people who do not affect my lives on a personal level. Hate is a term i reserve for the person who tries to assault my girlfriend or family member....not cricketers or sports personalities.
And passionate IND supporter ? I support IND but there is a difference between supporting them and being fanatical about them like you are towards your aussies where you cant take criticism. I am a cricket fan first and team fan second- i guess that concept is as alien to you as ET was.

And dont try to twist my words. I never said aussies arnt good enough to be praised for their achievements. I said that they catch heat because of the prefferential treatment shown towards them in terms of Code of Conduct and their authorities's inability to take it as good as they get- basically bullies.
Its not coincidence that this OZ team is the LEAST liked of all the great teams in the cricketing world- Braddles' team enjoyed universal popularity, so did the WI fo the 70s and 80s.....and so did the Saffies of the late 60s for ones who could look beyond politics. This OZ team however has VERY LOW APPEAL outside of OZ. Simply because they are too arrogant and get treated prefferentially. I praise the OZ for their accomplishments- they are one of the greatest teams ever. But THE greatest ? dont make me laugh. THE WI of the 70s and 80s are the greatest team ever, closely followed by Braddle's invincibles.

everything you said applies to cricketers of other nations and other eras.
Where this AUS team differs from the rest is the prefferential treatment it gets in terms of code of conduct and an arrogant attitude off the field.
That was not present in the WI team of the 70s/80s and Bradman's invincibles.

Nookie you have to be the biggest bitch, sorry for winning? Its called celebration, yes maybe it can go over the top but you would to if you won.
Tell that to the WI of the 70s and 80s or bradman's invincibles.

indeed. It does. However, comments like 'how does Lara's D*ck taste' or 'I'll rip yer f*ckin throat off' are just crude and crass showing a lack of manners.
I would much rather have witty and fun-natured sledging of the yesteryears like Hughes's 'ticket please' comment, the sledging between Brandes/McGrath, Richards/Dilley, Richards/Gavaskar etc etc.

As per making OZ proud- no doubt their accomplishments have. But their behaviour ? if it did, CA wouldnt have clamped down on this team and OPENLY declared that they need to improve their image.
And you cant speak for all australians and i am glad that not all aussies share your viewpoints. For if they did, that would imply that aussies endorse uncouth and rowdy behaviour.

compare the society where current players from all countries come from to that where sides form 15 years ago came from.... its not just the Australian team

so find me a sledge from a non-aussie cricketer in the past 5-10 years that even remotely compares to that. You are defending a comment that even ourtaged the aussie cricket authorities.
