The Australian team - A disgrace to the game

Legglancer, I dont think that's true man. This australian team under Ricky Ponting is much better and that is one area where I think Ricky has done a really admirable job. I hated Steve Waugh for letting his players loose, Aussie players would do anything they wanted and Old Stevie would ignore it in the name of 'Mental Disintegration'. Indian team recently toured Australia, so did SL and I have observed a considerable improvment in Aussie players. We should give credit where it is due.

Sanz ..... I hope your observation will prove to be evetually true but its much too early to tell ..... When Australia toured SL this year Katich broke the stumps with his hand and all the aussies appealed. Fortunately he was cought by the TV camaras. When Lehmann made the F***** B**** C**** remark it was Ponting who was captain. I believe If australia have toned down a couple of notchers its probably due to all the criticism they have been dished out from all around the world.

Wake up mate, everyone does it.

Yes, occasionally the Australians do step over the mark, but so does everyone.

Well I belive that overall standards have improved a lot in the past 3 years, not just from Australia.

Now if only that wicked Kaif could be banned, we'd all be happy!

Not a problem...

Lets see if he is still a fan should they get beaten badly for a few years and end up down with the likes of Zim/Ban..

Fraz, you dont really have any point. You just are a confused bloke who wants to blame australia or someone else for his problems. You are just an ignorant fellow who cant even spell 'Lillee' .

We all know how good Javed miandad was when it came to sledging or fighting with other players. Kiran More, Lillee, Merv Hughes, Mike Gatting, Imran, Akram and the list goes on. He not only fought with his opponents, he fought with his own teammates as well.

As for your racism related comments, IMO South Asians are biggest racists and hypocrites I know. In south Asian societies a fair-skinned person gets more attention than a dark skinned. A darky is always considered ugly. South Asians descrimnate on the basis of gender, race , color, caste, religion, state, country, village, pind, language. As if that is not enough South Asians are the most selfish and corrupt people .

I have lived in both societies and have family and friends in UK, Australia and pretty much every part of the so called white or the racist world , I myself live in USA and based on what I have experienced and what my family has I can safely say that these societies are much better than the many south asian societies I have been part of while growing up in south Asia.
Who are you ?? Am I even Talking to you !!!!! Hey this Diss is very very old now that"You did'nt spell right" . Now let me tell you one thing . I dont take a shower, Put cheap anti fungal powder as a deodrant , and then iron press my under garments and put some make up on and then come on this forum to say some thing really slowly and checking the spellings 50 times to put up a post like you .I hope you understood that i was not saying luly(which is always in your mind) you clearly understood "lillee". I said it , It means I said it right away . Spelling thing is not important , So this diss is pretty old now and in my books it can only be answered face to face . And as far as this racist thing is concerned , I guess some of the members who 've seen my posts from the begining , they know what I always say . My grandmom (God bless) , was from a british background , and my dad's a Punjabi (Pak), and mom's from Dehli . So in my home there is quite a muticulturalism . The thing that you said is totally irrelevent , and may be perfectly applicable on you and not on me at all . I just said that he who gives any racist comments should be dealt with harshly . I am not against any race or team . Hats off to Australia , they are the best . The thing that I said about them was that they deserve to bully around . But if some one claims that a certain person gave any racist comment then he/she should be dealt with personaly . And hey hey hey you , This diss is also very very old now that "I did'nt understand what you are saying ,and you dont have a point". I am not even talking to you and you are getting crackers in your pants. Like once , a pure Indian Laloo Prasad Yadav said regarding the Chara ghotala that , "Hum nay jiss ka chara khaya , Wo to bolti nahi , Ap ko ka takleef hai bhaiya .

Lets not get into racism , please.
I live in the US myself and I have met both racists and ,well, ...non-racists.as for corruption, it is definitely not the sole domain of south asians..
but again, i do not think this is the right forum to have a debate such issues.

lets stick to cricket.

sledging is something every team practices. the aussies have in the recent past been guilty of it , more so than the others. however they have taken steps to address this issue and things have been better. the martyn-pathan thing in my view is being blown out of proportion. i would give them some time b4 i judge them.

i dont agree that south asian people are the most racists and corrupt...the western world is far more corrupt.

The australians and the south africans always tend to abuse the asian cricket players. Exchanging a word or two is fine but swearing and passing racist comments is not the way. Has anyone heard one Asian cricketer bieng racist towards any white cricketer ???

that shows how Ignorant the ausie and SA players are. its dissapoiting that those two teams are leading the current cricket standings.
Not in English, no...........

He couldn't do that because they never said he can't take wickets, they clutch at the straws that he chucks.
So taking wickets won't prove anything to anyone, because we all know he can take wickets.
Hardly call it clutching at straws though Richard, or are we the only ones who think that he has a suspect action? All the situation needs is clear proof that his action is legitimate, something a bunch of guys in coats watching him bowl behind closed doors and then coming out and going "Yep, it's fine" doesn't provide. Personally, I'm not sure about his action, but if it's proved beyond any doubt that it's fine, then I'll be happy to see him take a million wickets...

Yeah, Martyn provoked it by slapping Pathan and the others around the ground for a couple of hours. It was basically a smart-**** comment by a would be if he could be bowler. You wouldn't have a bias against Oz for some reason would you...."English Rose"!? haha

this 17 year old also happens to spend at least (only assuming) couple of hours a day discussing about all the happenings in the cricket world with other followers from the rest of the world. i dont think pathan would have done too much of that before his first tour
No Pathan was basically clueless about all aspects of the game - didn't even know what sport he was playing until he turned up at the ground.

This discussion about Murali has gone on for a long time and is getting repetitive and boring for most of us in this forum.

Now I know you have joined the forum and started posting replies for posts done weeks ago or even days ago, but I suggest you go through the Archive of threads and read all the threads about Murali in your spare time (since you seem to have quite a lot of it to post 10-12 posts in a row) and then come back with your spin doctoring on this !!

Most people over several threads have acknowledged that Murali has been tested several times over the last 10 years and his stock deliveries have been declared OK.

If you are not sure after all that I don't think anyone can help you, but to let you continue to be sceptical and suspicious !!

I don't think there is anyway they are going to be able to let you personally test this guy. So you just have to take the words of the guys in White coats who by the way have some scientific knowledge and background to add to their credibility.

In the meantime Murali may not get a million wickets but a few hundred and You unfortunately must remain unhappy in your current sceptical mindset!!

"Perhaps OTT"?!. From memory, didn't he scream abuse in his face and threaten to rip his throat out. What reaction would you need to be sure it was OTT??
The comment made had something to do with his wife did it not (or at least McGrath thought it did)? Considering she's battling breast cancer and was at the time - I think Sarwan could consider himself lucky to still have a throat. What makes a falsified statement from Waugh to Cairns terrible, yet a statement like this from Sarwan to McGrath acceptable?

You know what every top spot is being challenged through out the history of mankind . They deseve it . Hats off to Australia. Yeah but this white black $hit is in abundance in Australia and actually racism level in Australia is way more than any other society , because they have nt been living border to border with any other country .
I dont think that they tried any stupid thing while playing Pakistan , Because they know their heads can come off by the bouncers and bodyline bowling on the pitch . Once Lilly tried that and he had to hide behind the umpire to save himself from THE BAT OF Javed Miandad . Because winning and losing is a different thing but if One watches a posessive team (nature wise) , Then it is the law of nature that Aussies or any other top team is gonna bully them . So I dont mind these things at all . There is a difference between Bullying and giving racist comments , If some one gives a racist comments then his face should be broken at the spot , And this is the mistake of the victums that they took those comments and talking about them in the media later while taking care of the future , career and media criticism . If they were men enough then they should have kicked the a$$ of the person who gave the racist comments on the field right away . Mano a mano . I think every one is gonna agree with this .
Was that the game where Miandad was digging the bat handle into Lillees ribs on the way past while running? Perhaps the whole scuffle may have had more to do with this than any racial taunts?

The miserable minority who
misinterpret the game of cricket

By Mahinda Wijesinghe

During the past few days, Australian Test captain, Steve Waugh, has been bending over
backwards in trying to justify the Australian style of playing cricket, which includes, as he
himself called, 'mental disintegration' of the opposition. That is, in plain, modern language,
sledging. Obviously these outbursts have been as a result of Sunil Gavaskar's much
publicized speech during the Sir Colin Cowdrey memorial lecture he delivered recently in
London at the M.C.C. when the Indian icon made an oblique reference to the Australians as
the chief offenders of sledging. The despicable practice of berating one's opponents on the
cricket field is soon becoming an art now fine-tuned by quite a few international sides and
condoned mainly by the Australians. Gone are the days when the fielding side a batsman on
reaching (say) his century.

Are people expected to look askance?

During the course of a speech made in Banglaore recently, Waugh, admittedly one of the
most pugnacious cricketers and, statistically, the most successful captain ever, declared:
"There is far too much talk of sledging. These days cricket is played in the right spirit, though
occasionally things do go wrong. And when they do go wrong you have 20 or 30 TV replays
and people come to talk about it." Correct me if I am wrong. When McGrath mouthed
obscenities at Ramnaresh Sarwan during the recent Australian tour of the Carribean, or in
February 2001 when Michael Slater argued with umpire Venkataraghavan and had words with
Indian batsman Rahul Dravid at the Mumbai Test - while wearing a black arm-band in memory
of Sir Donald Bradman who had died a few days earlier! - are people expected to look
askance?

Common clay and porcelain

Over half a century ago, it was Sir Donald Bradman who wrote, prophetically, now it may
seem: "I know there are many shortcomings in the way certain individuals play the game of
cricket. And because the actions of a miserable minority, some people condemn the game
itself...there must be no confusion between the game of cricket and those who wrongly
interpret it. Played in the right spirit there is no sport which is capable of developing mans'
finest qualities. Common clay must go through the heat and fire of the furnace to become
porcelain. But once through the furnace it can never be clay again. In the same way a man's
character must remain permanently enriched by his experiences at cricket" Merely wearing
black armbands and paying lip service to the memory of Sir Donald is not enough.

Killing the golden goose

It would also be relevant to remember that due to the deteriorating standards of
player-conduct, the Laws of Cricket (Code 2000) now begin with 'The Preamble - The Spirit of
Cricket' where, inter alia, it is specifically stipulated (section 5) that it is against the spirit of
the game to "dispute an umpire's decision by word, action or gesture, or to direct abusive
language towards an umpire or player......." In view of such stipulations I wonder how Steve
Waugh can maintain that cricket is played in the right spirit. Posterity, and more specifically
statisticians, will record the current Australian team as the most successful in terms of
winning matches but is cricket only about winning? Well, the Australian way seems that. Sir
Donald Bradman must be indeed turning in his grave. The modern cricketer is earning huge
sums of money because of the manner the game was played by their predecessors and now
the baton of maintaining the noble traditions of cricket have been passed on to the custody of
the modern player. It is a responsibility they have to shoulder for their own benefit and that of
future generations. If however the cancer of sledging becomes a part of cricket, sooner than
later, the game may lose its appeal to the paying public. They may as well pay to watch all-in
wrestling or **** fighting. Players who condone sledging maintain that although harsh words
are said on the field, when they come off it, all is forgiven and in the confines of the dressing
room a beer settles all. In other words, vent your spleen in public - where watching youngsters
would naturally catch on - and behave as a gentleman should in private. Wouldn't it be far
better if these roles were reversed? Conduct yourself as a cricketer should in public, and what
you do in private is your own business. Otherwise, the modern player would be killing the
golden goose.
I'd suggest this isn't the most unbiased of articles. Is he going to write another article in light of the latest indiscretions by non-Australians?

Sarwan was responding, spontaneously, to a comment made by Mcgrath. It was a logical and not especially original response, but I'm almost certain there was no premeditation along the lines of "I know McGrath's wife is ill, so I'll mention her to wind him up".

The reported dialogue went something along the lines of:

McGrath: "Are you a puff?"
Sarwan: "Go ask your wife".

If McGrath was, understandably, feeling so sensitive that he was liable to fly off the handle, he should have stopped himself from sledging in the first place. As far as I remember, Mcgrath later expressed horror at his behaviour and accepted full respnsibility.

This situation is entirely different from the comments attributed, incorrectly it would seem, to Waugh, where he would have been deliberately commenting on Cairns's personal tragedy in a despicable attempt to wind him up.

This is an internet forum and not your typical Pakistani Dhaba in canada where you can say 'am I talking to you and turn your face away'. Here people would pick on you for your stupid and racist remarks even if you are not talking directly to them. If you want to talk to some individual only then I suggest you request the admins of this site to provide you with a 'corner room' where you can have your private tete-a-tete with whoever you want and I promise I will not disturb you. You also jumped into the discussion somewhere and made a really stupid racist comment about a nation, In case you forgot , let me post it for you and for others :-

"Yeah but this white black $hit is in abundance in Australia and actually racism level in Australia is way more than any other society , because they have nt been living border to border with any other country . "

As for you spelling Lillee as Lilly, let me tell you this is blasphemy man. How can you not get that right. Also, I am not interested in your family history or whether you take shower or press your thong , but you can check with the person you were talking directly to he might be interested in it when you take him with you in your private corner room. Also I dont need a lesson on multicultural society from people like you, your comments are enough to tell me what you really think about that.

Btw good that you quoted that baffoon 'Laloo Prasad Yadav' its fits so well on your personality. Keep idolizing him you are very close to surpassing him.
