14th at last check. My top 13 (chronologically) Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Hammond, Bradman, Hutton, Sobers, Chappell, Gavaskar, Tendulkar, Lara, Kallis, Sangakkara, Smith all make those first two teams.Where does he rank in your list of best batsman?

In terms of test debut, not age.Lara > Tendulkar imo
That's nonsensical. Lara > Tendulkar, obviously; Tendulkar's last 7 years matter. In terms of test debut, not age.

Yeah or pick Devon Smith and tell him just smash it, then watch him somehow average 40.bazball is about picking mediocre players and making them better by just bazballing
can't be picking Richards and Gilchrist etc. has to be people like Mal Loye.
I beg to differ.bazball is about picking mediocre players and making them better by just bazballing

Didn't he average like 60+ in 2021 leading up to the captaincy change anywaysI beg to differ.

I mean, yeah ofcourse it's horrible over Richards; not sure if the opinion is 'horrible' over others though...Barrington over Ponting, Dravid, Miandad etc let alone Richards is a horrendous opinion.

England literally fielded a bunch of much stronger players between the 13 years of time of Test cricket restarting and 1960 than they have done in the 64 years since..... Especially the first team of Pre 60s has an exceptionally strong batting and bowling (an argument can be made that they have 5 batsmen and all 4 bowlers better than anything fielded since).
It is wrong to put Hammond in a post ww 2 side.England post WWII - 1960 XI:

Can understand why Barnes isn’t there, but surely O’Reilly should be?Not going to pretend this is consensus, but a lot closer to it, I would imagine

Obviously the last is ridiculously subjective, but tried to get the best of what I've seen and from what I've read.
Fleming was better than many of those slip fielders. Not going to pretend this is consensus, but a lot closer to it, I would imagine

I'm pretty much using anyone to have played in the post War period till the 60s. Just wanted to point out how much of a quality difference was in the players who played during that 12-13 years and the rest of the post War period.Barrington belongs in the post 1960 XI tbh, unless you’re going by debut year.
From the ones I saw, I can't put anyone above Waugh, Richardson, Hooper, Ponting or Kallis. Flemming was definitely comparable though.Fleming was better than many of those slip fielders.
