Why? Big hitter, quick bowler (who wasn't actually that great) and there's already two specialist bowlers anyway. Plus Steyn lacks height.
Think the main aim of BazBall is to win by playing entertaining cricket. If I remember correctly Jessop himself was around 5.8. Jessop imho would be lot better in T20 circuit than in BazBall type where I don’t think he is quite good enough.

Jessop's height doesn't matter because he's a big hitting allrounder, not a specialist. And as BazBall involves doing things like picking people who haven't played first class in a year (Livingstone) or have mediocre to poor records but play the right way (Jacks, Crawley) you can't dismiss Jessop on ability.

I would go with Barnes, Steyn, Warne, Procter as my Bowling Attack. My guy O’Reilly definitely deserves a mention and lot more intimidating than Warne but Warne ofc lot more entertaining,

What does height have to do with bazball? Or have you just chosen a random factor to demonstrate the fundamental flaw of bazball focussing on attributes other than ability and performance

They picked Josh Tongue literally just because he was tall and decently quick. He did bowl decently though. They have also picked Hartley and Shoaib what's-his-name for India because they're tall, even though the former had a terrible season and the latter has played a handful of matches for an average of 60. They've actually said they're going out there and monitoring delivery heights.

@Patience and Accuracy+Gut if being entertaining is the main criterion, you have to pick Jessop. Despite his so-so batting record (an average of 32 back then was probably equivalent to 38 today) people would flock to grounds just to watch him bat. From the limited records of his innings it is possible his strike rate was close to 100.

Learie Constantine is another example, if you want someone with an even worse batting record, but was known for being entertaining and was significantly better and much more durable bowler.

If Jessop averaged 32 in internationals then I would probably have him. I know you can talk about limited amount of international back then but I don’t think he was quite good enough in the highest level of the game.

I think a BazBall XI would be:

Virendra Sehwag
Victor Trumper
Don Bradman
Viv Richards
Garry Sobers
Adam Gilchrist (wk)
Gilbert Jessop
Mike Procter
Kapil Dev
Shane Warne
Sydney Barnes
Miller and Botham are obvious choices to come in place of Barnes and Procter.

As Howitzer pointed out, Miller wasn't a very attacking bat. He infact was in my first team in place of Barnes. Botham is a close call, but I am not benching Procter for him. Procter was a very attacking bowler and an attacking bat; and Barnes also liked to do anything but ball defensively. Botham is probably the 12th man.

I’ll pick a Bazball Team I guess

V. Sehwag
D. Warner
V. Richards
K. Pietersen
G. Sobers
A. Gilchrist
I. Botham
W. Akram
S. Warne
D. Lillee
J. Garner

I’d love this XI

From those I saw, I'll go with

Sanath Jayasuriya
Virender Sehwag
Viv Richards
ABDV
Ben Stokes
MS Dhoni + *
Ian Botham
Kapil Dev
Andrew Flintoff
Wasim Akram
Shane Warne

Archer6K

U19 12th Man
My second XI

Hutton
Gavaskar
Lara
Smith
Chappell
Kallis
Sangakkara+
Imran*
Steyn
Ambrose
Murali

Yes I chose Sanga instead of say Knott or someone else. I’m aware he likely won’t contribute as much as his full capability, but his batting ability when keeping still outstrips pretty much everyone bar Gilly. Plus, for this team, he has experience keeping to Murali.

Less sure of the batting order for this team than my first XI.

As it happens, across the two XI’s I’ve managed to include my top 13 batsmen, my top 6 pacers and top 2 spinners, along with Gilly.
What about Barrington?
