India vs Australia first test in Mumbai 2001. The batsman was Dravid and the umpire Venkatraghavan.

Slaters outburst was sickening .
But Fighting?

I don't think so.

LOL. Don't worry, I'm his biggest detractor - and with good reason I reckon. He doesn't swing the red ball unless it is brand new (and even then struggles), bowls with a flat, skiddy trajectory rather than using his height to gain bounce and trouble batsmen. But the thing that annoys me the most is that he bowls around the wicket if the ball is not swinging, which effectively gives him the same angle as a right armer, negating his main advantage - variation.

For mine, I'd pick Nicholson.

Nope.

Had a moan to Venkat, had a sledge to Rahul McDravid. Match referee let him off with a warning.

The nearest I've ever seen to a player abusing an umpire (Apart from Andre Nel every time he appeals) was Gatting/Shakoor Rana. The Slater/Dravid/Venkat 'incident' was of no consequence at all in comparison.

That's the altercation after the catch claimed by Slater

(Before anyone says copyright problem..I will delete it in some time.)

Yes, but it's still much ado about nothing.
India felt strongly about it at the time, probably because they lost that game. Possibly it served more than anything else to focus the team, to fire them up for the rest of the series.
Do you think the incident soured relations between the two countries?
If not, why the mock indignation?

I don't think it soured any relations, but slater's action was uncalled for. I don't know why he was arguing with dravid even after the green light.

Oh, I agree. He was extremely silly at best.

Slater was shrugging his shoulders, meaning he did not know if it was a catch, you dont open your arms and turn your wrists when arguing. If Slater was pointing or raising a fist I would agree with you but he does not act threatening at all and it looks like both had something to say without any problem.

Dont put a spin on it.

Slater was telling Dravid that he had taken the catch cleanly and he should believe him when he says so.

Slater himself regretted his behaviour in a later interview to Harsha Bhogle.

Lillee's latest little Murali diatribe contained this little gem:

Dennis Lillee was less soothing, telling The West Australian paper: "I was brought up to be wary of people who pick up their bat and go home.
As opposed to picking up their aluminium bat and throwing it home.

.
.
.Which makes sense because it is always the kid with the one bat on the street who decides when the game is over.

God Sanz, i dont turn on the forums to see anti Aussie crap like what you been posting, and dont deny it, you obviously have a chip on your shoulder about Australians. I am going to the Cairns test match, and i can say that the people of Carins and Darwin would treat Murali coming to Australia as a privlidge. These 2 cities only get to see international cricket live once a year, they are both a long way and expensive for the so called 'drunken anti murali yobbo's' from the other cities to come up to watch the test matches there.

Regarding Williams not playing, thats a dissapointment but was expected from the Zimbabwean series i guess. I know personally i will be hoping for either Cleary (a long shot i know) or Macgill to get a place in the squad. The pitch wont help Macgill, and Cleary is inexperienced, but still Would love to see either of those 2 included.

My 2C worth.

Right - Warne and Waugh took money for weather forecasting - naive yes, cheating no?
Says Who, ACB ? Yeah Right I believe them.

marc71178 said:
Can you please prove to me that Warne has taken any performance enhancing drug, or would you prefer to retract that one?
Slater isn't the only one to ever claim a catch that may not have carried, and I firmly believe that when it's that close, the fielder doesn't necessarily know it didn't carry. And "fighting with the umpire" - as with Warne, I assume you can prove this?
Well that means the Aussie players do try to cheat at times by claiming catches, How many times have we seen Aussie fans calling that fielder as 'Cheat'. As for warnie, Didn't he take a banned substance before the world Cup despite being given a list of all the banned substance by Cricket Australia ??

I am not attacking any nation here, I am attacking the fans who dont want Murali to excercise his right to stay away from a tour. These aussie fans are just ****ed that they will not get a Chance to have a go at murali.
