Gough not up to the challenge

An unnamed manager in the WCC ranks came out with a scathing attack on rookie SA manager KJ Gough. The manager who is believed to be from a fellow Australian side labelled Gough as gutless and unfriendly, while the comments are unlikely to improve relations between all the current WCC managers it does show that the season ahead is going to be the most fiercely fought ever.

The attack on Gough came after the rookie 2nd XI manager refused to answer questions about a potential bowling strike force, an experienced journalist and respected media personality who is also asking to remain nameless, was conducting a short interview with Gough before he "apparently" threatened to set the studio on fire and personally attack the interviewer. At this stage South Australian officials are defending their manager, but this is bad news for the Adelaide based side who haven't been the force they once were in the past couple of years.

...was conducting a short interview with Gough before he "apparently" threatened to set the studio on fire and personally attack the interviewer.
After being confronted with these allegations, Goughy replied that he did not remember making them but it did sound like something he would say. At a loss, Goughy could only think of 2 possible scenerios. Either the event was fictional and part of a slanderous attack or he was drunk at the time.

Goughy added that just because he liked a drink that it in no way impacted his ability to manage and coach a cricket team. Also if the attack was made-up then he would meet the guilty party on the cricket field and would not be drawn into saying anything bad about anyone involved in WCC.

After the press contacted Queensland manager Gaurav Nayak, about the infighting within the WCC. Nayak was quick to offer his support for Colt's manager Loganathan, saying that he believed that the Colts had a good team, which he believed could win the title, especially after having observed their first team. While he believes that there was a reliance on the OD team last season, the situation seems to be resolved this season.

However, he also said that he believes his OD team to be up there with the strongest, and he believes that they would pose a threat, if not win, to every team in the WCC. Colts, TN, and ACT included.

Goff slams Cloete's ignorance

ACT 2nd XI manager Brendon Goff today slammed Tamil Nadu's Manager Andrew Cloete as "Ignorant" after the TN manager made comments suggesting that Goff was running the show in the Nations Capital..

Goff hit out at Cloete saying " No matter who's in charge down here we have more titles on our shelf then you've had breakfast's. He runs around as if he's the king of the castle, but until his side stand up and be accounted he cant run his mouth"

Goff went on to give further insult saying " He's like the WCC version of Ricky Stuart, dribble comes out of his mouth before he thinks and half the time i think he reads what he's said and regrets it."

"We've seen plenty of team which were 'supposed to be champions', however they fell short, TN could face this fate this season" Goff added..

We are certain to hear more of this fued, especially if a microphone is put under Cloete's mouth. One things for certain though, we will need to cover the microphone to cover from the "dribble" that Goff referred to..

Dela Cruz issues a 'back-off' warning to Goff

In his comfortable abode in Tamil Nadu, newly appointed 2nd XI manager Robertinho Dela Cruz spoke candidly about ACT 2nd XI manager Brendon Goff, who has been shown, in recent times, to be something of a loose cannon.

"Sorry, am I reading this right?" Dela Cruz asked, looking up from the transcript of Goff's interview. "This is outrageous. I'm never, in my behind-the-scenes involvement in WCC, seen something as inappropriate as this. Sure, a bit of banter is fine. But personal attacks? Way too far."

Dela Cruz was even more shocked as he read on. "Alright, this is a joke right? I'd never have thought that someone as senior in the WCC ranks as Brendon would resort to such low, highly personal insults," he said, "Surely the WCC board will reprimand him for this outburst? This is representative of the decline in civilty amongst WCC managers and I think something must be done about it."

Speaking then of Tamil Nadu's chances of glory this season, he was optimistic. "We have one of the most talented lists going around and our 1st XI manager, Andrew, is as shrewd a tactician as they come. That said, seemingly unlike some other managers, I have alot of respect for my fellow managers and their teams. I will not be reduced to bickering."

The interview was cut short as Dela Cruz dashed off to a Tamil Nadu net session.

Queensland manager Nayak added his voice to that of Dela Cruz, in saying that Brendan Goff has just gone a bit too far with his recent press release. "As long we banter about the teams, it's alright, but personal attacks are definitely going too far. Managers should have much more respect for each other's ability, and let the results do the talking."

Ricky Stuart weighs in on WCC battle of words

Australian and Sydney Roosters coach Ricky Stuart has weighed in on the war of words in the World of WCC.

Stuart has come out in defence of Tamil Nadu Manager Andrew Cloete who was verbally attacked by ACT 2nd XI manager Brendon Goff.

Goff called Cloete "the WCC version of Ricky Stuart", going on to say "dribble comes out of his mouth before he thinks and half the time i think he reads what he's said and regrets it."

When asked to comment on Goff's statement Stuart declined to comment, however he did say he was very good friends with Cloete and that he was a very good manager.
"Andy and I are alike, we are both very passionate about what we believe and we like to show it" Stuart added.

WCC Launch Marketing Campaign

The WCC last night announced its first phase of advertising for Season 7. At a massive gala event at Darling Harbour, the WCC presented it thirty second advertisement that will air on all major television channels in no less than ten countries. The clip features foootage many of the big name players in WCC, set to Smashmouth's Why Can't We Be Friends?. It is obvious the WCC are trying to promote a more amiable atmosphere following the fierce slanging matches between managers in recent weeks.

Drunken Burke Further Sullies Kent's Image

The advertisement may be trying to promote friendship and co-operation between teams in the WCC, but Kent manager Stephen Burke seemed to be promoting some different ideals following last night's unveiling of the new campaign at Darling Harbour. The gala dinner had free flowing champagne, something which Burke obviously appreciated, as his table reportedly went through twenty-four bottles, despite the fact that the others sitting at the table were his players, all of whom had sworn off alcohol during their pre-season training.

While the WCC board members were proudly showing off their new ad, loud and vulgar noises and comments could be heard eminating from the Kent table, causing many Kent players to leave in embarrassment. The presenters were clearly ruffled by the disruptions, yet Burke continued to shout above the speeches, while constantly asking the waiters to 'bring some more ****ing alcohol.'

After the event had finished, a stumbling Mr. Burke was seen outside the ballroom, trying to engage Mashonaland manager Andrew Cameron in a fight. Tempers between the two managers have been rising over the past few weeks, and this event will no doubt only exacerbate these problems. Despite their history, Cameron refused to fight Burke, but when the drunken manager took a swing at Cameron as he was walking away, the young Mashonaland batsman Quentin Oulton stepped in and struggled with Burke, before throwing him outside the hotel. Oulton has had a history of short-temperedness, although many presumed those days were behind him after Cameron had taken him under his wing.

This incident has only further compounded the season lead up for Kent, whose management has come under attack from several other managers after Burke had publicly criticised Cameron for his confident manner going into the season. Such events have caused Kent a loss that has been reported of up to £1,000,000 after several sponsors have cancelled their contracts with the club.

My Drink Was Spiked: Burke

Kent manager Stephen Burke has claimed that his drink was spiked last night. Burke behaved in an outrageous manner at last night's WCC advertising campaign launch, and is rumoured to have taken a swing at Mashonaland manager. However, Burke believes that someone put a substance in his drink. Burke had this to say about the inicident at a press conference this afternoon.

"I apologise for my disgraceful behaviour last night, it was truly unacceptable," he said. "However, I have good reason to believe my drink was spiked. Many of my close friends and family will back me up when I say I am not a heavy drinker. I believe some sort of substance was placed in my drink to cause me to behave in that manner. I think I know who did this, but I will not comment further as a police investigation is being undertaken in regards to this incident."

I didn't drink 24 bottles, that's ridiculous. The reports were wrong on that account.

That Was Alcohol-Free Champagne: Caterer reveals

In light of Kent manager Stephen Burke's heavy drinking during the WCC event at Darling Harbour, the caterer of the event, Luigi's Bar and Bistro, released a statement that has shocked the WCC world.

"That champagne was alcohol free," owner Luigi Panichi stated when questioned about the event. "I poured the glasses myself and delivered them to him. They were 0% alcohol, and I had watched the drink from when it was poured to when he drunk it - his claims of the drinks being spiked are ludicrous."

"I can understand that it's a very embarrassing time for the club and Mr Burke himself, but there were no behaviour altering substances in that drink," he said sympathetically. "Normally I wouldn't have said anything, but I find it quite insulting that he would try to blame his short comings on his drink being spiked - that is, his non-alcoholic drink..."

"It's a shame that he chose tonight to reveal his particularly obnoxious personality to the world - at the WCC's Why Can't We Be Friends advertising launch, no less!"

Mr T Weighs In And Backs Burke

Acclaimed actor and well-repsected cricket expert Mr T has gone into bat for underfire Kent manager Stephen Burke. While Mr T is known mostly for playing boxer Clubber Lang in Rocky III and BA Baracus in the 1980's television series The A-Team, he also writes for the award winning magazine Inside Cricket.

Mr T was not a happy man when speaking with Ms Robson

Mr T today rushed to the defence of Burke, who behaved raucously at the WCC's advertising launch. Burke made a spectatcle of himself after drinking quite a few glasses of champagne. Burke claims that he had a drink spiked early in the night, while caterer Luigi Panichi has told the public that the champagne was alcohol-free and is certain it was not spiked.

"I know the Burpdawg personally, and he is not that kind of man," Mr T said in an interview with Naomi Robson on Today Tonight tonight. "It is a huge possibility that his drink was spiked. That joke of a caterer cannot be sure that a drink wasn't spiked. Someone could have done it while it was sitting in front of Burke on the table."

Mr T also lashed out at Burke's so called peers in the WCC ranks.

"I find the lack of support from the cricketing community to be astounding. I pity the fool who kicks a brother while he is down on the canvas. That's just not the way it goes down. Some of these people need to take a good hard look at themselves or the T will sort them out."

A police investigation is still underway concerning the alleged spiking of Burke's drink.

SA 2nd Team manager, KJ Goughy, took the stage at the Gala Dinner expected to make a speech regarding WCC expansion and the role of 2nd teams in the competition.

However, taking the guests by surprise he launched into an a cappella version of the Marvin Gaye classic "What's Going On".

After completing the song, he wiped a tear from his eye and passed out ribbons aimed to promote friendship and unity between the teams and managers.

Jamee Gray today turned up to the scheduled Surrey Round 3 Draft Press Conference, and took questions along with Ramesh Kripal Singh, the young Indian batsman who was drafted last week.

The conference was going well, with Gray fielding questions about Ramesh's role in the team "Ramesh will be very useful for us, as he has strengths with his batting in both forms of the game. The hope is, that he will be able to plug any gaps that we may get through injuries, and he may be able to force his way into a regular spot. The coach then continued to say "Ramesh will most likely be starting off down in Guilford with the Seconds, but he will spend a lot of his season playing a couple of big league games, then returning to the Second XI".

The interview was then rudely interupted by Kent manager Stephen Burke, who walked in the back of the room, then stumbled his way to the front, and said a few words which quite clearly showed that he thought he was at Canterbury, and this was his interview, before uttering "I'm pished!", then vomiting and passing out. The interview was quickly ended, and Jamee Gray thanked the audience and press.

Mr Burke was not avaliable for discussion of his actions.
