The season has not even commenced yet, but the rivalry amongst the WCC teams has reached fever pitch. It seems like every single manager wants to talk up their team, with some even announcing their likely line-ups. Now Kent manager Stephen Burke has put his two cents in.

"I'm sick of all these managers shooting their mouths off" he told the media outside his house earlier today. "They are putting huge amounts of pressure on their players to perform. For example, Andrew Cameron has come out saying this is the best Mashonaland team ever. I just don't think that's fair on the players seeing as it obviously isn't."
When questioned about his own team's prospects, Burke said all he wanted was for his players to "give 100% and have fun out on the pitch."

Um have you seen previous Mashonaland teams.. It wouldnt be hard for this one to be the best...

After hearing on the radio that Kent manager Stephen Burke had been criticising his management, Mashonaland manager Andrew Cameron immediately called up the offending radio station to set Burke straight.

"I don't think Mr. Burke's in any place to criticise someone for their management," fumed Cameron. "Perhaps if he had actually managed a team through a season, his words might have some meaning. However, coming from a rookie manager, they really mean nothing to me. Seeing that he has only been on the managing circuit for so short a time, one wonders how he would know whether or not our team is the best one Mashonaland team has put out there."

Thomas labels Kent and Co as 'no hopers.'

Yorkshire manager Greg Thomas had an unexpected press conference today while out shopping for hats.

He declared "Stephen Burke doesn't know what he's doing at Kent. His approach to the new season is all wrong and his language suggests his side is underdeveloped and have no real chance at winning."

Before the media could ask him follow-up questions he was off, last seen trying on top hats.

Burke Stands By Comments

Stephen Burke offered this short yet poignant statement to the media in response to the outrageous attacks on his person by Mashonaland manager Andrew Cameron and Yorkshire manager Greg Thomas.

"I may be a rookie manager, but I've been watching cricket my whole life and I know what I am talking about. Mashonaland is a good team, but certainly not as good as Cameron is making out. I was simply commenting on how unfair Cameron's comments are on his players and I believe his players performances will suffer as a result. Whatever respect I had for Cameron has dissipated following that outburst. As for Mr Thomas, seeing as I have never managed a WCC side before he is no position to comment on my managing style. I think it will only be appropriate to comment on this once the season is under way. That is all."

Thomas repsonds.

Yorkshire's Greg Thomas spoke on radio this afternoon claiming Stephen Burke really didn't know what he was talking about.
"First he's saying he knows what he's talking about and then he turns around and says that he's a new guy. Make up your mind, Burke! Watching cricket isn't the same as managing a First Class team and quite frankly he needs to change his attitude if he wants to succeed."

It seems all the managers are talking things up ahead of the much anticipated Season 7, and so far none of them have been able to look or sound smart. Apart from Greg Thomas, who looked very smart in a new hat.

Some People Are Too Smart For Their Own Good: Burke

On Inside Cricket tonight, Kent's Stephen Burke replied to Greg Thomas's claims that Burke doesn't know what he was talking about.

"I can comment on Cameron's managing style for example because I have seen him manage Mashonaland in the past. However, Thomas cannot comment on me as he has not seen me in action yet. So it seems like I do know what I am talking about. I would also like to say I am not trying to make enemies here, and it is unfortunate that at times my words are being taken the wrong way."

Cameron shoots back

The tensions between the Kent and Mashonaland management teams have been strained even more, with angry Mashonaland manager Andy Cameron firing back this swift response to Burke's latest offering to the media.

"Stephen Burke clearly has no idea what he is talking about, especially when it comes to managing a cricket side. Despite his sheepish explanation, it is clear to all that he was trying to take a cheap swipe at myself and my team by putting words in my mouth. I'd never claimed that this was the best Mashonaland team, I'd simply voiced my opinion that they were one of the best. My previous statements were simply a way of encouraging my team before the season and showing my support for them, something that Mr. Burke evidently does not understand. Mr. Burke has come out and said that he hopes for his team to have fun. These are the words of an under-11 coach, rather than the manager of a first class side, although I suppose it is to be expected of someone with the little experience that Burke has. What is even more baffling than the way he runs his team, however, is the way in which he attempts to argue his point. When people highlight his inexperience, he claims that it doesn't matter, and yet he uses it as an excuse to hide from other comments."

"I have no time for someone like Burke who is clearly just trying to start some trouble before the season begins. Myself and my management team are busy trying to plan the season, while all Burke seems to have time for is aggravating other managers. All I have to say to Mr. Burke is wait until the season starts, and then let's see if you're still willing to say these kinds of things."

"It is nice, though, to see that other experienced managers out there have enough sense to ignore what Mr. Burke is saying. I have great respect for Mr. Thomas and the team that he manages, and I support his recent statements to the media in regards to the Kent team. Not only is he a loyal manager, but he has perhaps one of the best collection of hats WCC has ever seen."

Former Kent manager Tharmi Loganathan, back his succesor at Kent, Steve Burke, after some recent attack from Yorkshire and Mashonaland. " Im confident that i have left Kent in good hands, with Steve Burke one of best young managers in WCC. I don't think that Greg (Thomas) and Andy (Cameron) are in any position to question the mangerial ability of other managers. Condsidering they would be the favorites to be the first managers to get sacked. I think these attacks are just to take the heat of their own position after some pretty disappointing seasons last year."

Thomas backflips on statements.

On a late night talk show, Yorkshire manager Greg Thomas apologised to Stephen Burke of Kent.
His apology came just hours after he claimed Burke was an inadequete manager.

"I feel I should apologise to Stephen (Burke) for what I said to the media earlier. He's a new manager and I am not in the position to comment on his style. I wish him all the luck in Season 7 as he has a quality side with a lot of potential."

Thomas also extended an invite to Burke, saying "if he wants some tips I'll buy him a beer and give him a few."

Thomas is also expected to make a press release saying he actually prefers the company of women and does not want to "give him (Burke) a few."

Burke Clears The Air

Kent manager Stephen Burke told Bert Newton whilst appearing on Family Feud that he accepted Greg Thomas's apology and hoped that they could even become good friends.

"I'll take Greg up on that beer," Burke said. Burke however refused to comment on his disagreements with Andrew Cameron when questioned by Newton.

Greg Thomas (manager of Yorkshire) was heard yelling through a megaphone that Colts manager Tharmi Loganathan was "too focused on the One Day tournament and that his side would suffer overall due to neglecting the longer form of the game."

Cameron takes aim at Loganathan

As Colts manager Tharmi Loganathan has come to the aid of current Kent manager Stephen Burke, disgruntled Mashonaland manager Andy Cameron has hit back at the former Kent manager in a letter penned last night that was published in the WCC's newspaper.

"I find Mr. Loganathan's words totally uncalled for. Considering that I took over a substandard side, and was not given any trading or draft opportunities before the season began, I feel it is unfair for him to criticse my performances last season. As it was, we performed better than most critics had expected, and I was proud of the effort the boys put in last season. I also resent him saying that myself or Mr. Thomas would be one of the favourites to be sacked from our positions, especially given some of Mr. Loganathan's questionable managing tactics for the Colts, especially given his unnatural and bigoted obsession with recruiting players from Sri Lanka, rather than the best players available. Despite this, I have no problems with the Colts or their management team, I wish them the best of luck for the season, and I hope that we can put this behind us. As for Stephen Burke and Kent, that is another matter altogether, but I feel it has not yet been totally resolved"

"We feel our batting is now solid with these signings. It looked very poor before with noone averaging in excess of 47." said Yorkshire's manager, Greg Thomas.
Some teams already had top FC batsmen, before we started and we didn't more FC player. But then again we did bring in three FC players from three draft picks. No FC focus aye.

Colts have only brought in one Sri Lanka cricketer so far in the draft and that was Ranasinghe Wickramaratne , who was the 3rd best FC keeper batsmen from the draft.

Colts advise these two managers to get their information correct before they make media releases.

Lancashire management would advise the general public that it is probably not a good idea to take anyone with any connection with Yorskhire seriously.

In response, Yorkshire issued a statement declaring "Lancashire are going to win this competition and their manager's personal hygiene is terrific."

WCC Managers Away From Training Ground

As preseason training is beginning for all 24 WCC teams, many WCC managers seem more preoccupied with quarreling in the press rooms rather than training and assessing their own squads. South Australia manager Håkon Mørk, caught up after a practice game between South Australia and a local grade team, was curt in his response to the situation, but noted that "presesaon practice is probably the most important part of the year for us, even though the whole squad hasn't been assembled yet. I find it puzzling that most other managers seem happy enough to play diplomats in their press rooms instead of going out to the pitch." As for the practice game, Nick Collyer made 109 against easy opposition, which South Australia swept aside by 176 runs.

South African Backflips Are Okay With TN Boss

When asked on this sudden turn around in attitude from Western Province manager Ian Markus, Cloete revealed that, "while we [Markus] have never seen eye to eye there has also been an amount of respect there. Markus is definitely one of the more experienced and accomplished WCC managers and as such I have always been a keen admirer in what he has done with the South African team. I do also feel that he often finds losing difficult and as such has been known to make many excuses." When asked about Markus' lack of excuses at the start of this season Andrew replied with, "Perhaps they've finally run out?".

As the press conference drew to a close one of the journalists asked Cloete what his thoughts were on both ACT's playing roster and their management tea. "They're definitely a challenging team in either form as they have guys who are match winners. Marshall will probably become one of the top WCC bowlers in a few seasons while Tweedie is also a big threat in the shorter version of the game. In saying that, I don't think they're title material and they simply lack the amount of quality players to push for a title. There aer definite weak links and I'd certainly expect my boys to beat them. I also find the amount of confidence Fitzsimmons boasts to have laughable. But perhaps his lack of experience at the top echelon of WCC has clouded his judgement. I think Goff is using him as a pawn in order to avoid the pressure that the head job at ACT contains, we all know Goff is running the show behind the scenes."

Underwood Fuming

Ian Underwood has hit out at Brendon Goff accusing him of being a "Bigot of the highest order. Perhaps it's time he looked at the larger scheme of things instead of letting his personal bias get in the way. "

When asked on how his form was heading into the new season, Underwood declared that he was "Seeing them like watermelons. I believe I'm primed for my best season yet. I'm as eager as ever to prove to everyone who I am and what I can do, as my performances over the past 2 seasons obviously still haven't made an impression on the likes of Goff."

Comets manager responds to Cloete commens

Lack of experience at the top level did you say? it's obvious some people have short memories, mainly those connected with TN, for these people its hard to remember Fitzsimmons once managed SA to the division 1 title. Fitzsimmons alo had this to say, "there's one guy running the show down here in the nations capital and his name aint Goff."

Goughy wonders about all the angst

Rookie South Australia 2nd team manager, KJ Goughy, called a press conference today that was unfortunately very poorly attended.

The only journalist present was a lady from Womans Weekly who had walked into the wrong room, but liked the biscuits and decided to stay.

After fielding questions regarding knitting, Brad and Angelina and the state of cake recipes in the TMS commentary booth, Goughy managed to issue a statement regarding WCC.

"Thank You for attending this Press Conference and thank you for the nice comments regarding my sweater. I want to back-up the comments my boss made regarding the petty squabbles going on in the press. I hope a few managers have to eat their words at the end of the season. We are quietly confident at SA but you will not see us making bold predictions or attacking other clubs and managers.

This season will, in all probability, see great cricket played and for the sake of the children I hope we all perform well and act like the ambassadors for the sport that we are"

After adding that he was looking forward to the latter rounds of the draft, Goughy politely excused himself and was last seen heading towards restaurant holding a coupon for 50% off a fish taco
