Barrington batted way too slow for me, but I'll vote for him if thats the only way to keep Trumper out.

Boycott, although I'll change my vote to Trumper if it means him getting in ahead of someone voted for purely for the sake of keeping Trumper out. (or something like that).

*SHRUG*, if you think Trumper deserves it, then vote for him. I think there are about 15 other batsman that would get in ahead of him left still, so no matter who I vote for, in my mind, I'll be voting for someone more deserving than Trumper.

But like I said, if you think Trumper is better than Barrington and whoever else, then go for it.

No, look at their career S/R. Not even Sir Viv scored as fast. Plus, since around 2000, there aren't exactly any great new ball bowlers that Hayden has had to face (look how much Sehwag averages), so Gilly easily comes out on top.
I don't rate Test batsmen on their strike rates, for reasons myself and others have mentioned before. Also the lack of good new ball bowlers doesn't mean that Hayden had an easier time facing the new ball than Gilchrist does the old one. The bowlers that Gilchrist faces are just as rubbish as the ones that Hayden does, but Hayden has to face them with the new ball.

Add my vite to either Trumper or Barrington, whoever needs it more to win.
Far be it from me to bring it up, but are we beginning to get further and further away from the point of this exercise?

I don't know about that. Spinners these days are better than pace bowlers too, especially new ball bowlers.

And I never said to rate them by S/R. I said Gilly is more destructive than Hayden, and when you disagreed I have the gave the S/R as an example (its not even close). Now you are saying you don't rate it.

Yea, vote for who you think is best, or at least against who you think shouldn't get in.

That's fair enough then. Gilly > Barrington > Hayden >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Trumper IMO.

I would very much argue that. Out of the spinners that these batmen face, with the exception of Murali, spinners today are just as much if not more rubbish than their pace bowling counterparts.

This whole thing is starting to get a bit pointless, i guess it my fault partly for starting the whole i vote for someone else so some doesn't get in. Really should have done the 3,2,1 IMO.

That method has flaws as well. Suppose I rate Hayden > Trumper > Gilchrist. I can just leave Trumper out of my top 3 to make sure he doesn't get the extra points.

UPDATE: Trumper 4, Barrington 3, Gilchrist 2, Hayden 1

lillianthomson - Boycott/Trumper ... please choose one
phoenixfire - Trumper/Barrington ... please choose one

Meh, as I've said I don't even think Barrington is the best England bastman left (Grace, Compton, May all ahead of him in my books), let alone the best full stop. But it seems the 58.67 average is mighty persuasive to a lot of folks on here.

Meh, i've said before their is about 20 better batsmen then Trumper let and atleast 4 Australian openers. But i wouldn't be surprised if his hype and lack of competition for best batsmen in era, gets him through.

Actually, it seems we've hit the wall in terms of this particular thread, and from here on in too many people are voting against players they don't want in, rather than for players they do.

Perhaps it's time to cut losses and leave it as a Top 20, to save missing the point of the exercise any further going down to 25. I think I'd be right in saying we're all reasonably happy with the list up to this point?
