sorry maybe the bullying tactic comment was a little harsh, but I think what Bracewell has done to Vincent shows a bit of a change in attitude which may make soem of them stand up and take notice especially since the middle order is becoming quite congested.

Marshall does not usually bat at 4 or 5 for NZ in Tests, he bats 3. He's had to come in a few times basically as an opener anyway, and has shown he has the application and technique to do well against fast bowling.
Agreed, also when he did well against Australia last year he was coming in very early in most of his innings' (Flem was opening and having a nightmare)

The fact is that why would you drop someone who has averaged 60 in his past 5 Tests, and 40 in his past 10?

If this team was picked on form, Styris should not be there as he has only averaged 30 in his past 5 and 10.

You shouldn't pick a side on a 5th bowling option unless he's a genuine one, which Styris is not.

If Ramdin were Indian he'd now be described as the new Gilchrist.
Honestly Marc, you clearly have an obsession. Just unncessary. Then again, you did claim Harmison was the best bowler in the world a little over a year ago based on a few performances against the WI, so you're hardly the king of objectivity when it comes to your own team.

Anyway interesting to see Patel get into the test squad. I'll be following his performance to see how he goes. :)

Oh yep! So he bats once in his ODI career at 3, and he gets 48 runs....so of course he bats better up the order eh!

Where's the sacrastic roll the eyes icon?

Vincent's omittion is an absolute disgrace as far as I'm concerned. If he's not a better bat than Styris and Fulton, I'm not here.

I'd even back him to score more runs as an opener than Hamish Marshall and Jamie How, to be honest.

unfortunate that Vincent is not playing but i'm sure they'll probably play him in another test in the Series. I would have him over How or Marshall probably Marshall. Marshall's on a losing streak which has been going for quite some time now. I'm not sure how Patel will go in Tests.

What I actually said was that I thought that the best fast bowler on form in the world is the one at the top of the world ratings, because I have a lot of faith in the way it is calculated.

Firstly, I'm talking tests.

Second, he's only batted at number 3 three times in tests, so I have to admit, it's not much to say he's a definite number 3. Apart from the fact he scored two centuries out of those three times.

Another century at number 4 and of course his debut century was at 8.

The figures

Batting at 3: 3 matches 230 runs @ 115.00 2 centuries
Batting at 4: 11 matches 523 runs @ 37.35 1 century and 2 fifties

Batting at 5: 6 matches 246 runs @ 27.33 2 fifties
Batting at 6: 6 matches 151 runs @ 25.16 1 fifty

If you are talking about Tests, then you are bloody wrong because he doesn't average 48 at 3 in Tests. In ODIs he does.

Thats right. However, NZTailender's point is stronger than he gave it credit for, as Styris averages 115 at #3 in tests!

I'd rather see Greer Robson be given a crack (excuse the pun) first, seeing as she has the pedigree, having gone out with Parore.
