VERY well bowled Clarke, and also well played Symonds, Martyn, Bracken and a few others. A great comeback guys.:)

Total (all out, 46.2 overs) 209

Back to normal for Ajit and India.

I'd add Rikki Clarke to that list of people CW's slagged off...he's done pretty well in Bangladesh, certainly well compared with his team-mates. And you can only play what's in front of you (waiting for "but it was only Bangladesh" comment).
There's possibly a general perception coming across that the English posters think he's rubbish - if that is so, that impression is a mistake in my opinion.

The anti-Clarke 'feeling' is probably just that we're tired of the 'Surrey leg-up' - a recognition and justifiable resentment brought about by the fact that as soon as any Surrey player does anything of merit, the national press are clamouring for inclusion in the England side.

The reason for this is probably just London bias - all of our national newspapers are based in the capital and most of the hacks never venture north of Watford.

From a personal point of view, I think that Rikki Clarke is an immense prospect, possibly the equal of Andrew Flintoff when he first came into the side (although Freddie was a year or more younger - Lancashire do not possess the strength in depth Surrey have so he was thrust forward earlier).

Clarke is nowhere near the finished article. If he kicks on, he just might be something special in a year or two's time - and I'm not basing ANYTHING on what he has achieved in Bangladesh, just on what I've seen in games against Derbyshire last year and Leicestershire this year. Then again, he could crash and burn.

A good victory to Australia.

Martyn played very well for his century. He also received good support from Gilchrist (smacked 41 off only 30), Symonds & Bevan.

Bracken and Clarke bowled really well to take four wickets each and at the same time they were both economical in runs conceded per over off their bowling.

Australia again proved that they are true champions.Indian bowling as usual lacks consistency. Unfortunetly i cannot see the series, but i guess Bracken is bowling really well and under huge pressure, he has only played 14 matches, bowling in india and taking wickets is a huge plus for him in his future.

lol, i dont think his bowling average will remain quite that low

though i do think Clarke and bevan should be batting above Symonds, thay are specialist batsmen and symonds has better slogging ability, especially over bevan.

Clarke, yes, Bevan, no. Clarke should really be batting 4, but Symonds has a newfound maturity at the crease and is better higher up. We need Bevan down were he is and he has performed there for years.

Didn't Ajit Agarkar bowl rather well in today's game? Comparison-wise, he was clearly the pick of the Indian bowlers. Figures-wise, that was a pretty impressive bowling performance any day, especially considering they were Ponting, Martyn, Bevan and Bichel. :wow:

impressions thus far...

match 1 - promising start for NZ but the weather wins out b4 anything can be judged from the game.....

match 2 - Australia looked as if they had just stepped off the plane & no time to acclimatise. Gave themselves a chance but fell away towards the end of the match after spending all day in the heat.....

match 3 - match loosing decision at the toss to bat 1st. At least the poor pitches in NZ were consistant thru both innings........

match 4 - normal service resumed for the Aussies! AA bowls well for India, but outshone by Bracken's reply.

:)

Hi Im new... Linda, 16 from Perth:D

I thought the game last night was FANTASTIC!! But then, I guess I am slightly bias becuase Martyn scored his century!
But Im so happy about the Aussies confidence, it seems to have risen 100% Good stuff.

Oh no, not another Australian...........:P

Only joking :)

Welcome to the quality forum that is Cricket Web and hope you stick around for a while.

Not sure whether the Aussies confidence needed raising after all they do have the best OD team in the world by half-a-mile and the best Test team in the world by a whole mile. Though the new guys seem to have taken their time to settle in and now they have, normal service is resumed :(

General Impressions -

1. India needs Ganguly, though Dravid hasn't been bad as captain. I think that when he returns dravid will again keep wickets. And that would make the Indian team a bit stronger.

2. One or more Australian always performs outstanding in a ODI. And Australia wins again. Same old story. :)

3. Turning point of the match : Most definitely Tendulkar's dismissal. If he would have remained for say, another 10 overs, things would have become very easy for India.

4. Seeing the way Australia defeated India, I'm dreading what will happen in the Test series (Australia) already.

5. AA should be kept in the team. He can bat and/or bowl well. And he's a decent fielder too.

Btw, welcome to the forums Linda.

I don't think NZ will want to play like they did last week any time soon so today's match could be good providing NZ do play well.

Cricinfo says whoever wins the toss should bowl first...apparently Fleming has been having sleepless nights over the toss.
