Bracken was already in the squad, Lewis is badly over-rated and Wright has, unfortunately, been earmarked as too old to forge a career (despite being about the same age as Lewis...)

I rate Wright as a one day bowler though, and his added batting would make him a very useful player.

I know it would never have happened, but wouldn't it have been great to see Warne come out of retirement as his replacement?
It really wouldnt have shocked me if he did it for just this one series, but that would be pretty pointless from an Australian point of view, as they are building to the World Cup.

What the hell do the selectors see in Clark? What a shocking call. What happened to Mick Lewis? I wonder if it had 'Encouragement Award' in big bold letters on the top of his contract.

You'd think they would go with whom they gave contracts to......

But have the selectors ever done that at all? It's always someone outside the contracted players. AND someone usually from NSW................

Yeah, N.S.W. always get the edge in selections. Clark is useless. When even Braken is better than a player you know something is wrong.

I think it's official. Lewis' contract was a demeaning pat on the head for a few good years service. "Here, have a few Aus A games and a bit of extra cash. Hopefully that will distract you from us elevating any other fast bowler we like into the senior side ahead of you. "

Would have thought that Merv would've been in his corner.

Merv only got the selectors job because he has good weed and Boonie had no competition at the selection meetings.

Well despite the terrible news for Tait (first serious injury of his career really!), I'm pleased White got the call-up to the ODI squad. He's got a heap of potential in that form.

Am i right in saying that Tait is yet to play an ODI ?

Good thing if he hasn't, because I reckon he'd cop a bit of treatment in the shorter form

I will actually be surprised if Warne does not come out of retirement to play in WC 2007.

Well, I hate to have to say this, but when I looked at his action the first time, I thought this was bound to happen, although this is sooner than what even I thought.

With his action it was bound to happen. And I agree on White. I think he's elevation all but means Warne will not be making a comeback to one dayers.

People have been saying that for years though, and it hasn't happened.

Today. :p

Actually that's not strictly true. Top_Cat may be able to confirm but I'm pretty sure he had an injury about 3 seasons ago that either put him out for a long time or for the end of the season. He then had to remodel his action.

I have a friend I was talking to at uni who works with the Broncos and Bulls as a physical conditioner and he says, barring a miracle Tait will have a major breakdown before too long.

the aussie selectors getting on my nerves now its just like they dont think before they select a player geez, what could they possibly see in Clark has a ODI player they could easily have selected someone like Damien Wright or even Lewis who must be feeling now that his CA contract is for nothing.

Now that Tait is out of the team for the entire home season Australia's backup has a bit of a dilemma in both the test & ODI sides. Bracken is now likely to play a lot but he's effective with the new ball in both forms n he wont get it in front McGrath n Lee so thats a problem. I hope Dizzy can find some form quickly n get back into the side but until then MacGill should play in all test this season if he doesn't it will be the 3rd stupidest thing the selectors would have done ths season

Geez never new that one,,,But then again he was found not guilty on appeal? Is that right slow love or did he get of on some technicallity?
Howard,i read chappellis book as well and found it fascinating reading and very honest, you say he says nothing more than his articles but a lot of ppl havent read his articles, but point taken m8 to each his own.

One other Point for anyone who may think gilly will open the batting with Clarke, nope Gilly will open the batting with Katich,I heard Ponting say it on sports toninght (foxtel) So at least we have the openers,i hope we only have 1 clarke in the side though, but dont know who else they can use?I wonder if they thought about giving Harwood a chance after taking 4 for against ROW for vic,i mean what more could he have done and he has proven form going into it ,with confidnce,as it was not the bunnies he dismissed was it,Strange choice and he lives in melbourne as well ???????
