Manly want Orford, so it seems that he is their first pick. If he signs for the Melbourne then i think we might keep Monaghan. Monna also said that if he doesn't get a offer from Manly then he will go to England. I don't think we need Orford as i rather keep Monaghan, his been brilliant for us. If we get Orford then it going to take atleast half a season for him and Witt to get a combination. We been going through so many halves over the last couple seasons it time to show some faith in the current ones.

no, he needs to prove himself all over again surely. there are plenty of better, more match fit options out there atm.
You would have thought that was the same for Ryles and BK last season when they got selected for NSW after long injury lay offs. They did it before and they might do it again if Johns has a good game this week.

The key difference being that Johns would be in the crunch position and has to control the entire game as opposed to the other two who are forwards

Exactly. And if the Qld forwards dominate early like they did in game 1 then it is going to be a lot harder on Johns considering he's played what 11 games in 18 months. Kimmorley would not be under so much pressure if that last pass didn't get intercepted. Most of the blame would have gone to the forwards.

Kimmorley still played a dud game though. It wasn't just that one pass.

Yes, a lot of that can be attributed to the dominance of QLD forward pack, especially early, but his kicking game, even when under little pressure, wasn't all that flash.

We all know that. But he more than likely wold have slipped under the radar if the game wasn't lost on that one pass - it would have been something else. I don't think anyone's denying that he had a poor game.

I could add one more name to that Trent Barrett, another one that was brought back to NSW side last season after a long injury lay off. If i recall he was in a crunch position halfback.

There's a difference between being out for 4-7 weeks and only playing 11 games in 18 months due to major injuries. There's no place to hide in Origin football, you get found out if you are not match fit or not capable enough.

Trent was out for most of the season before as well, he came back at the the start of last season and then got injuried again, then like Johns he came back prior to orgin.

But Barrett has been playing since the the start of the season, something like 10 games before the first origin match.

I'm talking about last season when he came back from a similar injury lay off, and played in orgin after a couple games.

Yeah, but that was after a couple of games, Origin 3 IIRC. It wasn't like Johns where he was out for so long and only had one game back. I'm sure if Johns can stay fit he will be selected for the 3rd origin.

Well he was asked to play Orgin 2, but ruled he himself out. The selectors wanted him after one game. The situation was the same as this one pretty much.

I don't know why Melbourne are so intent on keeping Orford, they'd be better off making a play for Monagahan (sp) or Berrick Barnes, go for someone else.
Think Orford is a more proven player then Berrick Barnes who has only played less then five first grade games.

Monaghan won't be at Manly next year. Jilted skipper eyes options
