My dad always used to tell me the story of Hylton Ackerman (known to carry a bit as he liked his food and drink) and Eddie Barlow.

Eddie Barlow was ahead of his time on fitness and they used to go up and down Lions head and do all sorts of fitness drills and Hylton would say I'm here to score runs not be fit. Barlow would say if you don't do it you won't play for Western Province.

Magala like Dala should only be an international T20 option.

Just not consistent enough for long periods against high level batsmen.

Can you image playing under Kepler at Eastern Province and SA.

In many ways it is similar to how SA fielding has gone down. Discipline.

For SA u19s another disappointment yesterday.

Batsmen
Cat A : Bird & Parsons
Cat B : Beaufort

Bowlers
Cat A : Coetzee & Parsons
Cat B : Cloete and Brett

Tiaan van Vuuren has been rated a while now but has yet to do anything with the bat and ball for SA u19s. Just a lack of output he only bowls a few overs in an innings so for now he has a long way to go for me.

I've been looking around and there seems to be no update on when Wiaan Mulder is fit and available again.

Lions team on Friday.

Rickelton, R.Hendricks, Bavuma, vd Dussen, Lubbe, vd Bergh, Fortuin, Phangiso, Siboto, Hawken, B.Hendricks

They lose 5 players to SA : R.Hendricks, Bavuma, vd Dussen, Fortuin & B.Hendricks

The 12th and 13th men were Richards and Rapulana - not sure who will replace Fortuin & B.Hendricks - maybe Pongolo one. Can't fit in Potgieter/M.Pretorius

I think George Linde is the unluckiest cricketer in SA right now.

Decent in his chance in India. Missed out on SA A side v England immediately after that. Has 2 100s this season and wickets in 4-day comp.

Also showing how clean a striker of the ball he is here. Lance and Albie stuff. But not in the limited overs squads ?

Why the hell where we playing Pretorius with Jason Smith in this sort of form.
I'm still trying to work out what to expect from him. Lack of 100s as a batsman. Can't really think his bowling will get him picked.

Stuff Khomari not being able to bat lower, I would have had Smith at 4 today.

Before today for Cobras.

4-day
1526 runs @ 35.48 with 1 100 & 12 50s HS 100*
47 wickets @ 33.42

1-day
346 runs @ 26.61 with 2 50s with a HS 56
10 wickets @ 42.20 @ 4.98 RPO

Lack of hundreds is a concern. However he averaged 58 in 2018/19 4-day. And is averaging 41 this season. He avg 36 and 35 with the ball last 2 seasons, respectively, He has been the closest we've had to a batting all-rounder in SA bar Mulder. What is more important you can see how he has improved over the last few years. Particularly, batting higher. He clearly has a higher peak potential than Pretorius, who pretty much is near his peak and on the way down.

The selection of people like Pretorius is pure conservatism, at a time when that is not what South Africa needs to rebuild to a good team.

Linde is very unlucky. At just about any other time he would be in the SA team. It is pretty terrible the way they treating Maharaj so I feel sorry for Linde to try get in there. Port Elizabeth we could easily have bowled both. I know they are the same, but better than Parsons.

On type of cricketer , Jason Smith is hands down what we looking for. I do want slightly more from him though. Why was he not selected in the MSL is what I want to know ? Prince will know a lot about him. What I found encouraging was Prince's belief in Bedingham so it won't be lacking for Smith moving forward.

I do love Jeremy Fredericks. So much passion for the game. Loves his back ground knowledge on cricketers and particularly young cricketers being an SA Schools selector back in the day.

I agree. I would have rested Philander and played the extra spinner in Linde at PE.

Generally it would be more ideal having different types but what matters most is the quality out the hand first and foremost.

Still trying to work out why such a talent like Breetzke hasn't achieved a bit more.

You watching his stroke-play. He has technique, he has timing and he has all the strokes. He has touch play to go with it.

Clearly shot selection is an issue. Just hit the most glorious cover drive two balls before the dismissal for 4.

He hit the ball well but aerial, with the straight short mid-wicket he had to let the ball come to him more which he can do for it to go squarer.

Think he comes out with too much intent at times. But he is the type of talent we need to get right. They can turn good balls into 4 with their talent.

Well done to young Ntini for his first wicket.

That was not a great shot from Breetzke... was looking good until then. Qeshile at 3 is interesting. More responsibility?

Loving it from Robbie P.

Everything so far, I've liked about how he wants to back young talented cricketers.

Good athleticism from the big man to take that catch... not a great dance in the commentary box!

I`ve seen Ntini jr bowl a few times now and this has been by far the best he has looked bowling I've seen.

There is a lot to work with.

Both dismissals here were shots hit out the middle and either side of fielder and its 4 but its the intensity and accuracy ball after ball that has impressed.
