**** also interesting regular leg-breaks from Brevis ( a bit of a buzz around his name & supposedly AB de Villiers has done work with him - like what I saw) and Keevy as batsman & Benkenstein's son who was leading wicket-taker at u15 week and already got a 5-for for Hilton 1st team also a leg-spinner.

Outside of the 15 in the u19 CWC squad + Ruan Terblance & Lifa Ntanzi.

Other players who could do something.

1. Ruan Cronje (as mentioned above joined KZN Coastal from Free State)
2. Lehan Botha. Stayed in SA and if I was WP I would get him in the senior team quickly. Currently batting 3 for Western Province Cricket Club.
3. Stuart Els. Opening the batting for Border out of school who seem to be backing young talent.
4. Nonelela Yikha. Like the above and middle order bat/spin.
5. Sebastian de Oliveira. Seamer who debuted for Gauteng.
6. Jordan Hermann. SA Colts and leading scoring at Cubs Weeks. Scoring runs for Tuks 2. Only a matter of time before in Tuks 1 you imagine
7. Wrist-spinners. Cronje above + Bird for SA U19. Couple of others as wildcards down the line. Raees Carr (Wynberg now playing for Primrose CC) & Aidan Meyer (EP/Kingswood but not sure what he is doing)

Looks spot on about Trumpelmann too. Remember Glen Foxcroft schooling at Menlopark and then playing for Namibia. His brother Dean Foxcroft now in New Zealand and doing really really well. All the talk about Conway but he will be the next one.

I have seen how Dean Foxcroft was doing in NZ, looks an impressive player, but I had absolutely no idea Glen was his brother.

Possibly a factor. Pace off the ball is a common trend. Funny how tonights pitch in Durban played. We went slower balls too much when we had to go yorkers. The pitch wasn't tired at all which is odd for this time of year in Durban. Not a lot of international cricket for them on that pitch this summer

1999s had Wandile Makwetu & Sine Qeshile and the 2001s show early promising signs with Jono Bird, Ruan Terblanche , Bryce Parsons & maybe another 1 or 2 down the line.

The 2000s though never had massive reputations. The first one after leading contender Matthew Montgomery (now in England) has just scored a provincial hundred - Eastern Province's Tristan Stubbs who made the SA Schools team. Others currently playing provincial are Cameron Shekleton (made the move from Gauteng to KZN just like Conway, Roelofsen, Ackerman before him in recent times), Bonga Makaka (WP), Garnett Tarr (Northern Cape) & Jacob Miltz (Gauteng). Maybe down the line James Ritchie and Dian Forrester at Tuks will follow.

Obviously Gareth Schreuder and Justin Broad as mentioned above are in England like Montgomerty.

South Africa U19 batsman Jonathan Bird has been called up to the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras squad for the trip to play the Imperial Lions in a Momentum One Day Cup clash in Potchefstroom on Sunday.

Despite the SA U19 team enduring a disappointing campaign in the recent ICC Under-19 World Cup, finishing 8th in the tournament, Bird impressed with some hard-hitting at the start of the innings and Cobras coach Ashwell Prince is keen to see what he can bring to the Cobras setup.

“He’s obviously an attacking batsman and bowls quite handy chinaman, which adds quite a bit of versatility to the squad. The fact that he’s a left-handed batsman also counts in his favour as we currently only have George Linde in our top 7 who’s a lefty.”

Bird joins fellow graduates from the Western Province youth structures and WP Senior Provincial team, Thando Ntini and Mihlali Mpongwana in Prince’s squad, and the Cobras mentor is happy to see some exciting talent stepping up, with more young talent on their way up.

“We’re also quite excited about another one of our promising youngsters coming through our junior provincial and national teams, with Jono, Thando, Mihlali all having represented SA U19 over the last 24 months, as well as Ruan Terblanche (Boland) and Jean du Plessis (SWD).”

The match at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom starts at 10h00 on Sunday.

One of the sons of Mark Rushmere debuting for Boland. Obviously been studying at Maties.

You think of the recent success of guys like Vasconcelos, Bedingham and Glover due to the university there.

It is why Boland and North West as smaller unions have been so successful. They also producing their own and facilities are decent and they get decent crowds. Traditionally you would say Border, Northern Cape and Easterns are ahead of them.

For North West they had Janneman Malan, Marques Ackerman, Bjorn Fortuin, Dyllan Matthews and others going to Pukke.

So good to see this partnership from Hamza and Bird. Over a 100 now.

It would be great if they can find a niche for Bird from 3-6 because the talent coming through in Terblanche and Daniel Smith are openers only and probably will be better in longer format cricket. They know how to get 100s both of them.
