Yeah Bedingham is actually eligible immediately by ICC rules I believe, but the ECB have their own rules on top of that that require him to serve out a four year qualification period anyway (which will probably be more like three given how they count it).

The fact that he's ancestral rather than Kolpak does mean Brexit doesn't really threaten his situation though.

Some interesting words indeed from Prince.

https://capecobras.co.za/bedingham-signs-contract-with-durham/

World Sports Betting Cape Cobras batsman David Bedingham has signed a season-long contract with English County team Durham.

The 25-year-old will therefore be unavailable for selection for the Momentum One Day Cup which gets underway this weekend.

Bedingham, who is in his second full season as a Cobras-contracted player expressed his appreciation to a franchise he has supported all his life.

“I’m obviously upset to be leaving my Cobras family which has been an environment that I’ve thrived in since joining at the start of the 2018/2019 season. I want to thank my coaches Ashwell Prince and Faiek Davids for giving me the opportunity to play for this proud franchise. I’ve always supported the Cobras since I was a young boy so to play for this team was a dream come true and I hope to always have an affinity with the franchise.”

In explaining why he joined Durham, Bedingham, who has an ancestral UK Visa, said he was looking forward to the challenge.

“The opportunity to join Durham is one that I am excited about and the kind of person I am, I thrive on challenges, after having overcome a number of them during my life to date, and instead of being daunted by the challenge, I am confident that I will continue my growth as a cricketer.”

“Finally, I’d like to thank Cape Cobras CEO Mr Nabeal Dien for the guidance since I was 11-years-old, he has seen my progression through the WP ranks and I hope to continue the teachings he has imparted on me throughout the years.”

“I wish my Cobras team-mates everything of the best for the Momentum One Day Cup and for the future.”

Cobras CEO Nabeal Dien expressed his sadness at losing a player of Bedingham’s quality in the Cape. “I’ve known David since he was a young boy and have seen him go through an horrific car accident and come back even stronger and I was very proud when we were in a position to offer him a full franchise contract. Although I’m sad to see him leave this franchise, he goes with my best wishes.”

Coach Ashwell Prince commented on Bedingham’s departure and urged the powers that be to get to the crux of the matter why players are leaving South Africa.

“It’s about opportunity, it’s about uncertainty for the players. We tried everything to keep David here. In my honest opinion he has a better chance to play international cricket for South Africa if he had to stay. It’s high time that CSA sits down and look at things a little bit closer and get to the fact of the matter of why players are leaving, don’t beat around the bush, that’s where we’re at. I have a good understanding why he left, if anyone at CSA has spoken to him, they will also understand the reason.“

“If I have to criticise, people who can play at the highest level cannot just be seen around every corner, you just don’t see it; it’s 1% of players who can play at the highest level. Not everybody can play at that level and yes, there’s no guarantee that David could go on to play at the highest level, but in my opinion I feel that he had a good chance to play international cricket. Some people might say he has not done enough yet, but you can argue that he should at least be around the SA ‘A’ squads at the very least and he hasn’t had an opportunity at that level. The reality is that we can’t keep pretending there is nothing wrong.”

The World Sports Betting Cape Cobras begin their Momentum One Day Cup campaign against the Warriors on Sunday. The match takes place at The Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn from 10am. The match will be broadcast live on SuperSport.

jeremy fredericks is such an amusing commentator to listen too.
Just so passionate about the game. Not really done much English commentary so it was good to hear him.

Caught highlights of first innings. Who else on comm work ? McLaren, Pommie, Ntini ? Don't think I heard Brett Proctor ? Oh my word !

Cheers Fudgie. Been a very good domestic cricketer.

FUDGIE ENDS ILLUSTRIOUS TITANS CAREER
Veteran batsman Farhaan Behardien has ended his 14-year association with the Momentum Multiply Titans, after signing a Kolpak deal with English county side, Durham.

Affectionately known as “Fudgie”, Behardien was a vital cog in the Titans engine-room, and was regarded as one of the finest finishers in white-ball cricket.

“It is with great fondness that we will remember his time here, and we will always be grateful for his services as well as the success he brought to the franchise,” commented acting Titans CEO Pierre Joubert.

Capped 97 times for the national side in ODI and T20 cricket, Behardien also played in four ICC tournaments for his country.

The 36 year-old notched 6794 first-class runs for the Titans, but was even more destructive in the limited-overs formats.

“We always knew that a game was not over until he was out. He can be very proud of what he had achieved in his time here, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours in England,” Northerns Cricket Union President Tebogo Siko commented.

Behardien is expected to link up with young Cobras player David Bedingham, who has also signed a contract with the county based in the north-east of the UK.

Everything of the best Fudgie.

Jon Kent looks after Grant Roelofsen. Could hear the disappointment in his voice when he got out.

I was truly irritated by the Titans selection yesterday. I could not understand the lack of younger talent in the team?

They genuinely do seem to be lacking talent beneath. Ruan de Swardt maybe the best youngster not in their group ? No Markram, de Kock , Du Plessis, Kuhn, Wiese, Morris, Steyn

1. Henry Davids
2. Tony de Zorzi
3. Theunis de Bruyn
4. Dean Elgar
5. Heinrich Klaasen
6. Farhaan Behardien (Grant Thomson to come in)
7. Dayyaan Galiem
8. Hardus Viljoen (keeping out Corbin Bosch)
9. Tshepo Moreki (Junior Dala's spot if not injured)
10. Luigi Ngidi (Marcello Piedt comes in)
11. Tabraiz Shamsi (Greg Mahlokwane comes in)

Not sure you will like this much from Henry Davids

I'm sorry but van Jaarsveld can barely run between wickets anymore.
I wouldn't try to run between the wickets anymore after my international career was clearly over tbf. Six beers and an eye fillet every day FTW.

VVJ is a national treasure. What better a litmus test for a young bowler as to whether they could get him out before his partner barbecued him?

Best players make an impact, even at a young age. We can all see the quality in players, does not guarantee they will succeed but their chances are much higher. Princes comments yesterday was much closer to the truth.

Quota is an obviously an issue, but I've mentioned before that I do think lack of opportunities for youngsters seems to also occur at highest level because of this hanging onto 'experienced' cricketers well past their due date.

Will a SA batsmen ever play forward to a spin bowler again.

I am wondering about these Indian spin camps. We’ve been helping their fast bowlers but have India played some diabolical plot to destroy SA batsmen spin techniques?
