Best players make an impact, even at a young age. We can all see the quality in players, does not guarantee they will succeed but their chances are much higher. Princes comments yesterday was much closer to the truth.

Quota is an obviously an issue, but I've mentioned before that I do think lack of opportunities for youngsters seems to also occur at highest level because of this hanging onto 'experienced' cricketers well past their due date.
I always believe you get picked on your runs and wickets. Age shouldn't be an issue.

As a coach I would want to promote any serious talent I have into that best XI and be patient with them if I truly believed in them.

Right now there is just too many iffy players that quality senior cricketers need to remain if they performing. It is such a complex issue that was created when official quotas were brought in and I don't think it will be easy to be fixed anytime soon.

Cobras though will have Khomari, Kotze and Mgijima in a top 6 without J.Malan, Bedingham and Verreynne

Would Jono Bird get a game as the comp goes on ?

Burger misses out for the extra spinner.

What a mix up between Pieter Malian and Hamza.

Pieter could have been out LBW before it all.

How horrendous was that from Malan. There is the experienced player. Should have probably been out lbw as well.

Hamza should have shouted NO as he saw where the ball was.

If Pieter still ran then tough on Malan. Hamza should have just stayed. Pity.

Looking forward to seeing where Dyllan Matthews is with his wrist-spin.

Rips it both ways. Just about consistency.

He was clearly indicating no... don't know if he was shouting loud enough. If he was not the 'youngster' in the partnership, he would likely have stayed.

Is it just my bias or does the Warriors team feel like one of the better coached teams domestically. Clear plans and ideas, and execution pretty good. Even amongst the youngsters.

Why do we have so many overweight cricketers in the domestic game? Is it a lack of professionalism and complacency?

Been thinking about this. In the past say Cullian and Warne were considered chubby but not over weight. Batsman and spinners probably can get away with it slightly more and these 2 were no Inzy or Ranatunga. Thinking back in domestic cricket maybe Kosie Venter and Paul Adams.

But did you see Shaun von Berg yesterday ? Finished his 10-over spell and walked straight off into the dug-out like he did a marathon.

Name and shame

Levi
Van Jaarsveld
Smuts (not too bad)
Von Berg
Kleinveldt
Magala
Philander
Shamsi (more chubby and not athletic)

As a fast bowler you certainly lean towards injuries and not lasting long although Kleinveldt will say bull ****.

5th bowler issue for Warriors with Nyaku

Second, Vallie or Breetzke may have roll their arms over.

That there was case and point for Matthews. Full toss with P.Malan using his feet and 4 to go to 50.

2 balls after that ripped it square.

Bowls a googly to left-hander in same over.

Tools are there. Hope Robbie P maximises his talent. A little way to go.

Lovely lovely stuff this from Matthews. Flight and ripping turn.

Full toss for 6 to start the over but bounced back.

Glenton Stuurman an Oudtshoorn boy. So playing at home.

Not great pace but he bustles in. Hits a good back of a length hard. Can see why he has done alright in red ball cricket.

Frylink.

.. Ngidi worries me, but not to sure if that is viscous circle thing. Because he is injured puts on weight, because of the bit of extra weight gets injured and so you go.

That is why I didn't want them to rush him back but of course they will. For SA that is.
