I'm new to this site, but doesn't changing one letter in a word amount to "avoiding the filter"?

Anyhow, I understand what you're saying Richard , and you're right, he is.
Wrong interpretation My Learned Friend - you should have examined all the evidence - Richard is an admire of the non wa*ker

No. Nobody likes Graeme Smith. His team-mates, his countrymen, his parents, wife and children don't like Graeme Smith. To the extent that I understand him, I understand that Richard is English. Therefore his professed admiration for GS must be some kind of perverse act. Surely?

Wow so many issues arising from one days play:

- The Vaughan catch (and the conduct of Smith and Arthur)
- The De Villiers claimed catch
- The referral system
- Bowden's blunders and general attention seeking
- Freddie's return
- The underbowling of Pattinson
- Kallis's mini slump

Much more interesting than a T20 bash-athon.

I think its just to stimulate debate

Indeed (as David Gower might witlessly say). A really interesting day's Test cricket. One thing I missed was the conduct of Arthur - can you give any more details?

Wasn't he down there with Smithy, urging their man not to leave the ground?

Well no but someone has to defend him - i think the moderators must have an equivalent of the "cab rank" principal and Richard got the shortest straw (by some distance)

I'm still staggered by the selection of Pattinson for this Test, also by the decision to bat Ambrose at 6 when he must be feeling a little pressure himself with no runs behind him too recently. Hindsight is wonderful, but would have much preferred Freddie to come in for Sidebottom in the only change to the side.

Pattinson's selection came from nowhere, he appears to have leapfrogged a number of seam/swing bowlers that were presumed to be ahead of him. I appreciate it may be a selection for the conditions, but am still surprised Hoggard did not get the nod or at least another handful of bowlers. Must have just been a hunch from the selectors, time will tell.

From this, and a number of your other posts, I'd guess that you're a lawyer too Fred?

I am the legal affairs spokesperson for the Thames Valley Branch of the Guild of Village Idiots but that is a purely honorary title - straightforward professional idiocy is my favoured occupation

Richard must be out on the lash - cant believe he's let us get away with impugning his good name like this!

That's what I like to call failing to answer the question. It's a straightforward question, Mr Fertang: you're a lawyer aren't you?

:-O Well I cant imagine what gave you that idea :-O

Anyway if we're not careful those moderator people will delete our posts and ban us for irreverency and irrelevance

I don't think his name flies either.

Pattinson?

No, definitely not marketable.

Suggest a tweaking to Patterson, otherwise dump him.

SA, methinks. I'm a glory-seeker. 8-)

Seriously, whoever I'm supporting, seeing tailenders at the crease bores the life out of me. I want to see bowlers bowling at batsmen.
Suprising this coming from a self-proclaimed "Cricket Purist" who rubbishes new forms like 20/20. Tailenders attempting to battle it out and eek out as many runs as possible is part of the test game. If you only like watching bowlers against specialist batsmen, I suggest you watch a 20/20 game.

Just been watching some cricket DVDs tonight, Trent Bridge 05 then the first Test away to the Saffies in 04. Great stuff. Thinking positively that we can turn things around the next couple of days. My prediction is for us to concede a lead of about 70 and to have levelled the scores for the loss of 1 or 2 by COP

Haven't been able to watch the series, but have noticed Kallis isn't getting big scores. Is he getting out to good bowling, or does he look a little out of touch?

7. Batsman leaving his wicket under a misapprehension
An umpire shall intervene if satisfied that a batsman, not having been given out, has left his wicket under a misapprehension that he is out. The umpire intervening shall call and signal Dead ball to prevent any further action by the fielding side and shall recall the batsman.
...
That's a good point. I didn't see them signal dead ball, so England could, conceivably, have run him out.

He looks woefully out of touch to me, for Kallis. He just looks very tentative at the crease, like he's uncertain about what the ball will do. Two balls before he was out he was beaten outside offstump and the ball didn't really do anything. It's the kind of ball that Kallis, in any sort of form, would leave alone. It's really bizarre.
