What relevence does that have? Rudolph was batting when South Africa were going for a draw, Hayden's side needed to win at The Oval.
Easier to not make runs and not get out than it is to make runs and get out.

Good knock personally, but it wasn't what the team wanted was it? If he'd scored quicker, and they'd already been ahead of us by that fourth morning, the others wouldn't have had to bat quickly in awful conditions.
Remember that Australia walked off twice when the light was indifferent. If they hadn't wasted 3 hours being stupid, you wouldn't have had to clutch at such a thin straw.

Yes there was that too (though I doubt Hayden had much to dow ith that).

I don't see how I'm clutching at straws, because a win for Australia was an absolute must, so Hayden plays possibly the slowest knock he's ever played.

a disapointing series. all that slow play ending in declarations and draws.
A backward step for cricket just as it was in the proces of taking a major leap forward.

I dont know if batting was just too easy on these pitches, or the attacks just too weak or just an insistence on negative tactics.

cricket must not make it profitable for batters to just stay in.
At least England will play differently next year but this is still bad for test cricket.

I would hope the ICC get more involved and try to force the game in a positive direction.

That being said, how bloody good was Prince today? Kallis played a very patient knock, but it wasn't one of his best in his career, despite being his highest score against Australia (I remind everyone he's got an elbow injury) but Prince was simply magnificent. Warne may have actually got him in the end (wrong decisionIMO anyway) but the guts and determination he has shown all series has been great to see. When you're publically called a bunny and possibly the next Darryl Cullinan its easy to lose confidence in your game, but he didn't. Really good to see.
Oh Prince was superb. As Benaud pointed out, he was using his feet so well. Also the way he was playing comfortably, specially off Warne was amazing. He showed a lot of maturity, not to mention skill.

I told you pratyush they wouldnt get 500 :p
:) Two bad decisions since we had the talk.. 500 would have been more comfortable and was very much reachable at one point.

Never mind. I am happy with 3 wickets down for Australia.

The relevance is that it is completely going against the comment:

"What good is a big slow hundred when the match ends in a draw"

Without Rudolph's knock, SA would've lost, so that had a big point.

OK fair enough, didn't read the post above.

At last we Saffies can hold our heads up in this thread. (Note the absence of Saffie comment in this thread!) Please Aussies get someone to donate a pair of specs to certain umpires and tell Chappell there is more to cricket than declarations. Other than that, an extremely enjoyable two days cricket from our point of view.
First two tests Saffies were up one the first day, then lost it from the second day. Let's hope they haven't just moved the losing part up to day three.......
