93 from 240 deliveries. How can this guy be the best batsmen in the world as someone said here?
The little star by his name bearing in mind that this is a 5 Day game?

I hate that just because Shane Warne is Shane Warne he gets ridiculous lbw decisions.
More consistency in complaining about umpiriing decisions.

You have to take the rough with the smooth.

A gritty battling innings in fairly tricky conditions against bowlers who'd previously had the wood over him?

There were 1 or 2 others in that match who could've done with playing knocks like that.

He gets the blame, yet when he was dismissed the score was 323-3 (then 4) and the side ended up 367 all out.

Yes it is a new match, but how come you weren't complaining about the decisions throughout that series?
Well if you want clarification there was alot of injustice to him. Almost if not totally ruined the series.

As for batting slowly in test matches (on pitches that appear to be good to bat on), its more conducive to a draw and not a good strategy when you need a win to square the series. Not a new idea tho is it.

Wow, that day belonged completely to the South Africans. Will take a dedicated effort by the Aussies to get up near SA. That said, South Africa were 3/80 at one stage...

The commentary was God awful today, even from my man Chappelli. They may as well bring out the pyjamas and start imposing fielding restrictions considering the scoring rate they want. There is a reason Australia score so fast compared to other teams when they play Australia. 1) They have champion batsmen 2) They don't have to face McGrath and Warne.

They make it sound like its quite easy to go out there facing two of the greatest bowlers of all time and smack boundaries once an over going at a run rate of 4-4.5. I know Australia have been belting attacks around here in Australia for years, but its a lot easier to belt around attacks involving Fidel Edwards and Jermaine Lawson or Zaheer Kahn and Ashish Nehra compared to McGrath and Warne. Ridiculous.

I want Bill Lawry back. Get well soon buddy :( :p

That being said, how bloody good was Prince today? Kallis played a very patient knock, but it wasn't one of his best in his career, despite being his highest score against Australia (I remind everyone he's got an elbow injury) but Prince was simply magnificent. Warne may have actually got him in the end (wrong decisionIMO anyway) but the guts and determination he has shown all series has been great to see. When you're publically called a bunny and possibly the next Darryl Cullinan its easy to lose confidence in your game, but he didn't. Really good to see.
Once again your knowledge outstripes compared to my limited knowledge of cricket, so I have to agree.

To give credit where credit is due for me has to go to Ashwell Prince. Beforehand I felt he had his spot by default - ie Kemp being injured for the 2nd and 3rd Test, and he really needed a special knock by him to justify his spot in the team on merit, and I will get out my double pack of Iceland Humble Pie and eat it, and I'm glad he did it. It proves to him now that there is no stopping him since he made this breakthrough against a quality attack, and I hope so too.

If there is one think I would like to think of myself on the site and be noted for is that I give credit to cricketers who preform despite me writting myself (unlike select members on the site who I won't name but know who they are). Hey I did it for Flintoff like I said I would and you only have to go back to my earlier posts to find that out.

I told you pratyush they wouldnt get 500 :p
They declared so no they didn't get 500. Good time to delcared and have Aus by the throat at the end of play. Need to turn on the heat tomorrow and make sure Aus don't pass the 300 mark.

Nice work Saffa's ...

Well, SA's batting performance suddenly looks decidedly better!

But what was with the Aus batting?

All 3 played shots they'd rather forget.
Perhaps they were trying to advance the game? It's the Chappell way.

Sweeping statement alert:

That's because Australians don't know anything about cricket

Correction:

The statement should be qualified. It should read .... That's because Australian captains (past and present) don't ........

Point 1 - Drama queen.

Point 2 - the ODI's start next week. Seriously though, the Australians 'advanced the game' well enough in the last hour to have made up for Kallis. That should have pleased you.

Haven't read this thread yet but from what I heard today, the commentary was abysmal.

Healy is just a cheerleader for Australia.
And a damn ugly one at that

We could easily just block it up, would that entertain you or make the test worth remembering after two weeks?

Point 1 - Hey it worked for Steve Waugh for 17 tests in a row.

Point 2 - I think you are the queen.

Really, it might be better if you thought that last statement through. You have 3 batsmen back in the hutch already because they failed to engage their own brains soon enough.

Do you honestly think that launching an attack in the last hour of the second day, having been kept out in the field for four and a half extended sessions, was good cricket?

You do not attack without a platform from which to build that attack from - or rather, you're leaving yourself wide open if things go awry. Luckily, Australia have Hussey in next who can at least play some proper 'opening batsman' cricket - otherwise you could have the bangers in rather earlier than you'd like.
