Bit of a letdown considering it was a Mania, but a good show nonetheless.
Great to see Rey and RVD win but the match itself was way too short. The three of them could've produced a spectacle equivalent to the Benoit v Trips v HBK ME, but they weren't allowed the time to do so. GReat fairytale win for Rey though, he'll probably be in a program with Kurt after he tapped out without the ref seeing him.
Money in the Bank stole the show again, Shelton's performance was outstanding all throughout and Lashley's Mania debut was super impressive too. Big props to Finlay as well, he's such an underrated worker and a grerat team player all round. A lot of the younger guys will benefit by having him around the lockeroom. Dunno what Naitch was doing in this match, his spot should have gone to Carlito or Kane.
Edge and Foley was majorly brutal and Edge put in a top class performance here. Why they ever took the title off him I will never know. Mick looked very rusty at times in the ring today, but he contributed to an excellent match nonetheless. These two have such good chemistry togethor it's a shame they couldn't have started their feud a lot earlier. Had the makings of a classic but in the end turned into an entertaining match.
Onto HBK, I really don't like the guy at all, but you've got to give him credit for his performance today. Absolutely phenomenal the way he carried Vince. He was able to tell a magnificent story and love him or loathe him, HBK always delivers on the big stage. This match exceeded all expectations for me and it was all down to Shawn.
Now Trips v Cena. The crowd were on fire for this one no doubt but the way this match and feud was booked was terrible IMO. Having your top babyface booed for months makes your promotion look amateur and ever since Cena won back the title he's had Trips absolutely bury him dead on the mic every Monday night. This result made no sense to me and the question of where to go from here now arises. Do they continue a feud which no-one patently arises and if nbot what do they with Cena? Do they turn him heel as anyone he now faces will automatically be turned face by the crowd. Have they built any credible ready made title contenders who can make the move up? Cena's already buried Edge by making him tap clean and Trips killed RvD's momentum stone dead when he won the Road to Wrestlemania tournament. If both of those two guys are gonna step up again they need to be slowly built up again to reach the same momentum they had before.
The only candidate I can see who's worthy of stepping up is HBK but do the fans really want to see him competing for the strap again? This next draft is going to be very interesting. I didn't think I'd say it for a long time but RAW really needs some help now, Smackdown has been the far superior brand for a long time now and in comparison to RAW seems fresh interesting and offers a bit for all types of wrestling fan. It's incredible how Vinnie could let his flagship program go under like this. I find RAW unbearable to watch nowadays but look forward to every SD coming up. It'll be even better when Batista comes back into the title picture.
