England in a spot of bother here.

21 for 2
Yeah, this is more like what we expected from our 'B' squad. if Vince and Stokes go cheaply, I suspect we're not reaching three figures.

EDIT
Possibly unfair to Phil Salt there. According to The Guardian' over-by-over reports, 'he's doing his best to make Jason Roy look measured'. Good luck to the lad.

Well he made a nice 50, not overtly convinced, but it's not like he'll be first choice.

People keep on going on about our run-rate being why we're so brilliant at batting in ODI cricket, but I maintain it's the fact that our top order goes on to get big scores so often. This is more old school England, desapite a better run-rate, people getting in and out, leaving all-rounders to struggle to get to a score.

Gregory and Carse (which definitely sounds like a disreputable solicitor's firm from Dickens) have done really well though.

50 partnership up.

Can see why the selectors are keen on Carse, especially. Bowls a good lick and clearly no mug with the bat.

Always felt the hype around S. Mahmood was a bit overstated, maybe because of my horrible rememberence of the other S. Mahmood, but he's been really decent here.

Yup, two very good games for him so far, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him the first choice squad next time around; I don't see him as a downgrade on Tom Curran at all. Overton doing his chances no harm either.

Yeah, in the end Mahmood may well have already been in on Tom Curran, if it hadn't been for niggling injuries, it's not like they haven't been huge fans from he was very young. Cove, who knows, I kinda give up myself, but he's not done himself any harm.

I struggle to remember who bowls for us in ODIs nowadays, beyond Sam Curran taking a fivefor the other day. Was Willey opening the bowling against SL? I can't say he's ever fully convinced me. I know that Archer plays when he's fit, but he isn't at present. And Mark Wood of course. I think there will be opportunities there for people who push on with their games and take the chances that they are given.

As for Overton and Gregory, I'm happy enough that they won't be playing for your boys when I visit The Oval tomorrow. Based on current form, if Somerset win the toss, we'll spend the day watching Conway bat. And if Surrey win the toss, we'll only spend half the day watching Conway bat. No relevance at all to this thread of course, but I thought I'd drop it in.
