Livingstone legit just hit the fastest T20I ton by an englishmen, and did it down the order, which is rare ASF. He's pencilled in
Yeah, not like our options down the order are great, hence Billings being picked again and again. Bowling useful too and can field.

Yeah fair enough. Like the boy. But if you want to pick someone because they'll contribute 103 runs every innings you don't put them to bat at six or seven

If someone's not doing great, I'd say straight swap for Livingstone. Legit decent bowling option too. Funnily enough, Morgan looks the weakest link rn, been off it for a while. And I'm sure Tcurran would manage to still sneak in somehow lmao

I'd bat Livingstone ahead of Morgan - probably 5 and 6 respectively. I want to give Livingstone time to do as much damage as possible, and Morgan's shown enough evidence that he can keep his head to finish a tight run chase. OK, he got out yesterday, but his innings still changed the match situation.

Moeen's T20I record with the bat is awful, and I thought maybe it was just because he spent a lot of time down the order, but when he bats in the top 4 he still only averages 16 and strikes at 133. If he still averaged 16 but struck at 190 it'd probably be fine, but as it is I don't think it's a good idea.

As has been said, all the best bats want to bat in the top 3 in T20 cricket, and they tend to do better when they do. Given that, someone who wouldn't be playing if he couldn't bowl probably shouldn't be batting there. He should definitely be in the team but I'd be looking at a top seven order more like this:

Roy
Buttler
Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Morgan
Moeen

Tbf I think Moeen has improved tho (maybe I'm wrong and he's still as inconsistent idk), and I don't mind the pinch-hitting logic there. But yeah fair enough, though Root could slow things down a bit if we're playing in tracks like these recent ones imo. I'd say depending on the start/pitch etc, he can come up or a bit down the order.

Is Root is gonna slow things down too much I'd probably just not play him, move 4-6 up one and slide Livingstone in at 6. Or even just replace him with Malan. I don't think batting Moeen up the order is something I'd do unless a bunch of players were injured/rested/pox-ridden.

Malan looks truly dire now, esp against spin. I think if they find themselves in an Oz in the first t20 vs WI kinda situation, you'd surely need someone like Root to play the anchor role? Esp in slower tracks/low scoring games where spin comes into picture. Without him:

Roy
Buttler
Bairstow
Stokes
Morgan
Livingstone
Moeen

This is what you'd go with? I'm not quite sure about that tbh.

PS: Just realized Root played his last T20I in 2019 lol

Hard to see a return for Root with Livingstone's emergence. Root didn't exactly do much to further his claims for Yorkshire this summer in t20. It works pretty well for England too, with Root getting a decent rest when t20s on and is available for all tests and nearly all ODIS as a result.

Agree with theegyptian, Root is class but it's not obvious that he'd actually improve the T20 team, so continue to use those games to rest him. I think our best XI might be:

1. Roy
2. Buttler
3. Moeen
4. Bairstow
5. Stokes
6. Livingstone
7. Morgan
8. SCurran
9. Archer
10. Wood
11. Rashid

Harsh on Malan, Woakes and Jordan but you can only pick 11. Don't mind Jordan over Wood for his extra fielding or Woakes over anyone because he's a hero.

Batting order between 3 and 8 could be determined via random number generator at the start of each game and it'd be gun however it fell.
