Agreed that Gilly is a better captain (and less whiny about pitches) but he's just got too much on his plate already. It's much easier for Ponting to captain a side (not as well but still competently) without leather thudding into his extremities up to 500 times a day.
About the pitches comment, that keeps on popping up in here, Gilchrist made a comment re: the Darwin wicket after we'd beaten Sri Lanka up there last year. It was along the same lines (and agreed with by Dyson) as Ponting's remarks about the Indian wicket, the only difference being that we had won that time. If you want to bag someone for making a comment about a pitch (that was extremely dodgy) then fair enough but does that also make Dyson and the Sri Lankan team a bunch of whingers when they lost out here? Anyone with an ounce of vision could see both wickets were extremely poor, but not allowing certain people to say so when they're in a better position than us to judge (having played on it) is a bit unfair in my opinion.

I think that would be a terrible idea.
Why do you think it will be a terrible idea infact that is a great idea.So lets see the wicket keeper dont know how to bat although we did see him bat little bet making score around 10 or 12 and getting out and not to mention that he also dropped easy catche's so why not have a player who bats well who fields well oh bowls well.I dont see any thing wrong with that marc!.
and shahid afridi has a much better record againts aus taking five wickets when aus toured pakistan and averaging 32% with the strike rate of 69% with his batting. So why not have a player that can take the attack up to the bowlers unlike kamal and bowl as well.i dont see any thing wrong with that marc unless you have some thing wrong with your brain.

Apart from Gilchrist and maybe S. Waugh, yeah I'd say my comment still stands!!

Warney may be a chance for AB medal. 70 wickets in a calendar year, and he didn't even play the whole year. Some kind of effort. Langer would be my pick, tho.

I can see why Langer might be considered, but surely Martyn would walk away with the Test AB medal this year.

Not sure about the overall award though...

BTW.. For those in Melbourne that don't have Foxtel, Ch9 are showing the game right now... As I type it's 1/20, with Langer being caught off Sami.

Since when's it on cable?? :-O
Haha, you have a point - I plead ignorance because I don't have it (cable) myself. I just wanted to alert those who might not know that it was on free-to-air at the time.

Another good win to the Aussies - I can't help feeling that yet again, Warnie took the crucial wicket that changed the match when he dismissed Youhana.

Best line during the commentary had to be Bill Lawry, after an unsuccessful stumping appeal against Ponting:

"Ponting's on 43 - he was beaten by the turd AND the bounce."

I SWEAR he really said this. I have it on tape and I rewound it several times.

I'm glad to see my predictions come true!

I remember when England got thrashed by Australia a few years back, an Australian newspaper came up with a headline saying " Does anyone in England knows how to play cricket". Well in Pakistan's case we can't say the same as in Akhter, Youhana and Inzi they do have few players who knows how to play cricket!

i hope Australia shows some mercy on Pakistan in the last test match!

Good to see you know your place. 8-) Just kidding.

Encouraging to see SOME fight by our subcontinental chums, regardless of the winning margin.
