Frankly, things arent that bad between Pakistanis and Indians living in their respective home countries. Somehow, those living abroad seem to become more patriotic.

Also, due to the baggage of history and the prejudices brought on by al the negative conditioning from hearing family and friends speak about the 'hated enemy' the moment they start arguing, it invariably becomes personal and brings out the worst in both.

Its difficult to say whether it is more tragic or more stupid or more laughable or more childish. One would have thought that the generation born to parents who were brought up after the partition would be less affected by this insane affliction but I suppose the politicians and the religious leaders on both sides will not allow this to happen and we will contimue to be willing pawns in their game , nay, their business.

Thank God, their are more and more sane voices being heard above the cacophony of hatred spewing bigotry of the hardliners on both sides. These hardliners are responsible for keeping their country and its people mired in the middle ages and while the saner voices struggle to bring the light of tolerance.
I think you come from a politic back ground!

Really. I dont see this, what goes on here between some people as anything like a part of a great traditional rivalry. Do you see the Aussies and English at each others throats with the ferocity that some subcontinental fans show? Even when they are not playing ? Have you seen how some people trash the players from the percieved enemy country even when doing a harmless fun excercise as nominating a world XI ? The Ashes rivalry is a great traditional rivalry. Learn from the conduct of the fans of those countries and then we will see.

I must hasten to say, that all fans, on both sides, are not equaly fanatic and what I say is not aimed at each and every Indian or Pakistani fan.

I am an Indian fan and one of my greatest thrills is when India beats Pakistan. It is always a great moment, but if India plays well and still loses, I am disappointed but its not the end of the world and does not stop me from appreciating Pakistani performances.

Trashing the Indian players for losing (or the Pakistanis for beating them) or calling a loss to Pakistan as a shame for Indians (or vice-versa)...well that is no great traditional sports rivalry. It stinks of something much worse than sport or anything connected to it.
Don't get me wrong, I know fans on both sides go overboard, but you gotta admit, its getting better.

I, myself, will atmost defend my team/players but not trash other team's, which is what every fan should do. Hell, last time I went overboard was just before the '92 WC when a friend of mine talked crap about Imran Khan.:@ BLASPHEMER!!!! :p

Dangit!!!
Well now its Younis Khan's turn to make a century. Let's hope he makes it. Is Afridi playing? I doubt it, but does anyone know if he is?

another wicket
192 run partnership, not bad at all. Still would've liked to see Youhana go till the end of the inning. But I guess after giving the aussies so many chances to get out, this was bound to happen. Khan on the other hand is playing very defensively from what I read.

Kudos to Lehmann, 13 runs in two overs off of him.
Keep up the good work :p .

And now that I said that, he'll probably get a hat-trick. I probably just jinxed the Pakistani side.

Getting ahead of myself? Perhaps....even though he only has 12 centuries, the 47.82 ave is no joke. I know it doesn't make him the greatest, but 4000 runs in 55 tests would be quite an accomplishment IMO.

Watching him play has always got me excited. Wait a sec, that didn't sound right. lol
I was more talking about this being a test, not a ODI.

Found this little piece of information on cricinfo:

Younis Khan/Yousuf Youhana partnership 192 runs: Highest 4th wicket partnership for Pakistan against Australia (prev. Saeed Anwar/Yousuf Youhana 177 runs at Brisbane, 1999/00)

YOUnis gone, great catch by Gilli, Pak are now 298-5 with the 2 allrounders in Razzak and Malik batting.

Don't think Pakistan will get more than 50 runs now.

I'll be ok with a 450 total, although they need more than that in order to challenge the aussies.

Just thinking if history is repeating itself, only for Pakistan this time. :p
So far, it seems that way...after good starts and the possibility of huge score - team starts loosing wicket and its all over
