It would be interesting to see if Ikin does come back, not many clubs can call up a player of his quality when in desperate need.

I would love to see Ikin back, as he is my favourite player (or was until he 'retired'). But the Broncos have picked McGuire at 5/8th. Ikin could be back in the week where the origin players are out.

Mister Wright Tips for round 9

Season tally: 34/57

Roosters v Tigers

The 'Farwell to Freddy' begins this week. The Tigers looked ok last week, but the Roosters are playing much better than the Panthers at this point in the competition. Roosters welcome back Craig Wing and possibly Craig Fitzgibbon which should give them the advantage. Massive games are needed by Prince and Sattler if they want to press for Origin selection.

Cowboys v Warriors

Cowboys are getting their injured players back and look a little stronger. Their forward pack is starting to settle and they are starting to score points. Although the Warriors had a win last week, it wasn't convincing and I will need to see them win consistently before I am convinced they have turned the corner.

Storm v Sharks

The Storm were very disapointing last week and should have beaten the Warriors. The Sharks were demolished by the ever-attacking dragons. Melbourne at home should be too good.

Panthers v Souths

Panthers should make it two in a row. This game will be a good opportunity for their backs to get some ball and build some confidence for the season.

Manly v Dragons

Many = Pathetic. Dragons = Awesome. However if the Dragons are having a bad day and with a few players out with injury that is possible it is likely the Sea Eagles could win, but I can't see it.

Knights v Bulldogs

This will be a test of how the Knights will cope without Johns for the rest of the season. I can't see them beating the doggies.

Raiders v Broncos

I will be tipping the Broncos because I think they can win, but I think the Raiders will win. They have the home advantage and Brisbane are missing some big names. And although they are not a one man team they will strugle without Lockyer. If the forward pack lifts and Seymour creates some havoc Canberra could be in trouble. This is the week Shifcofske needs to make his move, and what better game to do it then against the Broncos.

the final week in my squash club picking comp. i'm sitting 2nd 7 points behind. which is effectively 1 match. the nrl seems pretty clear cut to me, but the super 12 should prove an absolute slut to pick. anyhow, here are my nrl picks.

roosters over tigers
warriors over cowboys; warriors weren't spectecular last week. but that was because the kept it simple and did nothing stupid. it was a solid win, and they are ready to build on it for sure. the fowards last week were brilliant. some awesome go foward. the cowboys continue to show promise, only they don't fulfil it. i'm expecting more of the same and the warriors to score their first win in townsville for 3 season.
storm over sharks
panthers over souths
dragons over manly
bulldogs over knights
broncos over raider

why does everyone refer to every team, but souths, as their mascot thingy?

GOOOOO QUEENSLAND. Surely they will win. Its hard to see them losing tonight, after all the trouble the NSW squad has been in in the last few days.

hard to see NSW putting up too much of a fight, but you never know...
are you kidding?!?!

This is stage of origin, they wont even think about that stuff when they are on the field. NSW are favorites, are at home, where Qld have never won. You can hardly say they wont put up much of a fight....

Having said that, of course im a Queensland supporter, so i want them to win, but im cautiously optimistic at best!

Yesterday's media talk from Gould was exactly what makes him so good at what he does. He's perfect at selling a story to the media - I think NSW are more than ready and he's playing the old double bluff card.

Now, he's turned the focus onto Webcke and Smith. I often don't like Gould, be he's nothing if not a gamesman.

I'm going for Queensland, but I find it hard to see how they are going to win. With no Lockyer in the team it makes a big difference. We have three of the most over-rated players in our side (who shouldn't be there IMO) Wesser, Slater and Bowen. All gower will do is put bombs up all day, they will drop more than they catch.

I'm hoping for once, that I eat my words, because I would love nothing more than to watch Gould with his hands in his head and see what ratty thing he has to say tomorrow.

we were unlucky not to win, but the game was a perfect example why origin shouldnt have golden point. id rather lose the series 1-1 with nsw retaining it, rather than 2-1 in golden point. I dont think its fair that just cause a game finishes even they should play longer. Draws are important in sport and its a shame that tonights result wasnt a draw, cause thats what it deserved to be.

Here! Here!

Queensland must play game 2 with a recognised goal kicker & must get rid of Wesser, he is not up to Origin standard.

Would you be suggesting a certain Canberra fullback to kill 2 birds with one stone, by any chance ;)

You know me too well Andre!

Well, that certain player should have been the first player chosen.

And I would also suggest replacing Hodges with Hannay. Although I will give some credit to Hodges that he was out of position and the only ball he saw he looked up and saw defenders two metres away.

Schifcofske lol NO
hes not een canberra first choice kicker anymore, hes looked ordinary in attack and his goalkicking has been under 60%.
We will stick with largely the same team, lockyer will come back to 5/8, flannery to the bench, bowen gone, berrigan will come into the centres and bowman will be given the punt. We should game 2 with that line up.

WHAT A RESULT, NSW win, Princey Kills em... Can't get much better...

As for extra time, it had to be there... I was at the game and when the fulltime siren went we weren't sure what the go was, and it was a hollow feeling it was like we'd watched a great game and we weren't gonna get a winner...
Im all for it...

As for the next game, i think QLD should stick with slater, he did very well, I think Hannay has to come in, the thought of schifcofske playing is laughable...
He has been ordinary at best, i also think Sattler should be there instead of Norton, and that Hodges should go, he was very ordinary again, way to slow for origin...

NSW, well Gowere was BAD, i think Hornby should be out but i think they will stick with him, O'Hara might as well've stayed at home, Clinton has to be there,Kite was very impressive...

Hodges was ok, as i said before id mainly stick with the same side.
as for nsw Gower is expected to be out for 6-8 weeks, kimmorley should come in, but knowing Gus i thik he may opt for Orford. Hornby was good, no need to drop him, Clinton should come in for o'hara, Barrett will play if he's fit, apart from that, Hindmarsh may also find himself on the outer if barrett is back, they will just push Timmins to lock and fitzgibbon into the 2nd row.

Waughney

International Debutant
I agree with Broncoman, although Minnichello may come in for Rooney even though he had a good game. Fitzgibbon should have got MOTM even though Timmins kicked the winning FG.

Hornby was Solid, not good..

But in origin you need a fullback who can spark something, he can't...
Thats why if Minni aint fullback then it has to go to Hodgo...

dam Hamstead and his rule changing ways. Don't the rules say, they will play a minimum of 5 extra minutes, until they have found a winner? I think Queensland were robbed. What crap...

no nibs, golden point means first point scorer wins, the rule is 5 minutes are played, and if there is no point scorer in that time, they change ways and keep playing ill someone scores.

I still dont know whats wrong with the draw though!
